Today I drove him with the roof up - and it wasn't raining. How weird was that?

996 Cabrio big smiles.

Felt like a big kid today again, I collected my hard backs, covers, control panels and coat hooks for the back of the seats from Wicked Coatings who hydroponically dipped them in a patchwork of riveted steel plate pattern, lacquered and flat polished them, the quality of the work looks great.

I understand if you don't like the pattern but like it so far and I think its going to look good in the car when its put back together with the leather is refurbished and refinished also the silver and black matches the silver and black on the rest of the interior.

I would of left them if they were in good condition but as you can see in the picture they were not and new ones from Porsche are £1000 each, oooouch, so that was not an option, this was the most cost effective option as they had a gooey film on them that had to be got off somehow and I was not going to try I would have ruined them but they had a dipping process to get the crap off and I wanted to give something different ago and if it looks rubbish Ill spay them boring black again.

Also got the windows tinted dark on the rear, slightly lighter on the side windows and a light tint on the doors, not everyone's cup of tea but I like it on a black car, sorry they are not better pictures, one day I'll get round to using my camera and not the phone.

Cleaned interior to neutralise cheap nasty fragrance dealer had smothered everywhere. All leather nourished 3 times. CDR22 AUX channel enabled and discretely wired to accept smart phone connection - works great. Washed paintwork for first time, but desperately needs deep polish and wax to restore lustre of Ocean Blue paint. Will delay till after winter, but in the meantime will protect paintwork with wax only.

Hoovered out both vents and couldn't believe what came out of them. Bought an extra long Hoover noozle for this. Hoovered the inside and must say wasn't expecting to find a shot gun cartridge under the drivers seat mmmmm?

Yesterday Ted took us from Suffolk to Lancashire and back, round trip 400 miles. I will not engage with "race me Mister Gary boys" but I do still feel frustration at sloppy lane discipline especially when served with a side order of cruise control induced "I'm not pulling over to let you by".
This trip puts me within a month or so of 80k miles so it's time to address the fact that the 80k service needs discussion at the garage in terms of both "what needs doing" and given that it's NOT going to coincide with the MOT in February, "when can I give him up for a day or two".  That's the hard part.
Also I started to look at the prospect of refreshing the headlights with the cape cod cloths I use for polishing watches and may well get out the elbow grease tomorrow.

996 Cabrio big smiles.

Fitted Bose speakers front and back, also had the front lights tinted, they blend in better with the car now.

GT3 Console delete fitted in about 3 hours (most of which was trying to find the hidden screws on the console!). Love the look and it gives a surprising increase in leg-room (and one less thing to rattle!).

Had the car up on the ramp yesterday to change filter and oil. Can't believe how ever did oil change last tightened drain plug so tight couldn't get it off. Last service done at porsche can't believe they would have done this?. First time I've seen under car since purchase two months ago, very disappointed to see manifolds very rusted by engine. Came home found two in great condition 100.00 smiling now just got to deal with stubburn sump nut.

Recharged battery out car, after completely dead last week. Will see how long charge is maintained, otherwise Bosch S5 is next on list to buy. Fixed the hinged flap on drivers side luggage rail. One side of the hinge had collapsed and suspect was causing wind noise at motorway speeds. Used a chop-stick to prise the strip out! All fixed and cleaned drainage channel at no cost (my favourite fixes). Thanks to Richard's past post on how to remove luggage rail. Polished chrome exhaust tips, used wire wool to remove stubborn carbon deposits.
