hi All
not a massively used area of the forum, but I thought I'd give it a shot !

Has anyone noticed suspension noise from their car ?

Specifically, when the car is cold - mine lives outside

usually occurs over our wonderful potholed roads, or sharp speed bumps
a hard metallic knocking noise from the front, sometimes accompanied by a creak as the suspension loads / unloads.

3 Dealers have had a look so far and found nothing wrong !

My other halfs 11 year old impreza with 150k miles is silent in the same conditions....
 
Suspension n oise is not unusual in the Panamera. Remember it's a car weighing 2 tons and the suspension does complain from tyime to time. I've had my dealer look because I thought it was bottoming out at one point but the dealer assures me nothing untoward has been found. Guess it's a live with it sort of thing and one of the idiosynchrosies this particular car has. Still remember how exclusive owning a Panamera is. You don't see them very often and despite their so called "ugly" factor (thankyou Jeremy Clarkson) I've found people seeing the car in the flesh quickly alter their opinion. They go away loving it! I love mine. It's an over engineered Porsche special with a bullet proof engine and if I had to pick just one fault it would be the lack of storage within the drivers reach. It is lamentable and something Porsche really needs to look at significantly improving.
 
hi thanks for your response ! I totally agree - it really is an awesome car - and I don't say that lightly, having had boxsters, cayennes, 996,997's, & GT3's I have had a loan car that does not exhibit this noise - so this unfortunately is my reference point... I have a friend who has a new Diesel, and by the sounds of it his has the same issue - OPC not resolved that yet either I just don't accept that is should be clunking away - my previous Cayenne (Hybrid) was totally silent over the same roads - and that's heavier and was running 21" wheels ! it is going back into Cambridge OPC later this month - I've given them a very detailed list of how to reproduce it - so here's hoping !
 
Very interesting. If you don’t mind keep me posted because the dealer may be trying to avoid expensive warranty work and if your problem is uncovered I’ve little doubt it will directly relate to the similar one I have. Thanks for posting. You are right the car is awesome and as James May said on Top Gear it goes like a stabbed rat!! I have the 550hp Turbo S….. put into Launch Control and it almost tears your face off achieving roughly a 3.2sec 0-62mph. Although Porsche say top speed is 191mph they always underestimate and I'm guessing it would break 200mph with relative ease. I'll let you know if I ever find anywhere to test the theory out! The car always attracts a lot of attention as I mentioned and it seems its exclusivity translates to not many other human beings ever having seen one. Its a great ice-breaker wherever I go. David, Tony I have had my Panny Turbo from new for almost 2 year with no suspension noise, I wouldn't say this is normal I'm sure OPC will figure it out for you. For me the Launch Control is the best bit of the car, I have managed to get the car to display 1.4g on take off! Take a look at the attachment, shows Panamera Turbo 2nd fastest launch only beaten by a Veyron! AndyK
 
Hi All I have just well two months ago purchased a 2012 pamamera GTS ,what a car it is what it says on the tin a grand tourer two day after having it drove to Le Mans for the 24 Hour race it never missed a beat. Going back to the suspension noise I did think there was a slight noise on mine dropped it in to Solihull Porsche they said there was slight play on the steering rack two days later it was in again and a new rack fitted under warranty they did say they had changed a couple. I cannot say if it has made much difference but you would think a new rack after 18 months 31k is the dealer just looking for work ? It I going back this week as they balanced my wheels but didn't bother to clean off the old sticky pads from the weights so I emailed them pictures and said to pass them on to the DP but surprise he way away for a few days ,service manager frightened of getting his arse kicked . So you could say usual poor service from Porsche centre Apart from that I must say it is the best car I have ever had,I still have a 996 4s which I have had for 12 years So get back on to them and mention the steering rack. Bought my Panamera Turbo Dec 2010 with 3100 on clock, now done in the 50Ks. Just wanted to say no suspension noise ever so may not be a general fault. As to the other comments by owners, I agree, what a great car,style, power in plenty and comfortable. Just a shame about speed limits on open motorways!
 
update on the noise... it's gone ! Ok - not the cheapest fix. traded in the 4S and bought a Turbo ! No noise whatsoever on this car; it does however have air rather than steel springs (both cars are PASM) Steering rack might have been the culprit thinking about it... Loving the turbo though - it is a little quicker than the 4s :)
 
Update June 2016.

Still have Pan Turbo - now with 86k on clock but low and behold the suspension noise is now there but wasn’t two years ago, when I last posted. Local PCC has stated has had Pan Turbos in with same noise problem. One they changed suspension some 6-7 times and after a couple of months noise kept returning! Seems as if there is no fix and the suspension has not been uprated by Porsche. However did find on Insane Garage.com a post suggesting "complete front end retorque including sub-frame, replace: upper control arms (both sides) bushings crack - parts updated since 2010; lower control arms ( both sides) bushings crack - parts updated since 2010, front sway bar bushings, front sway bar end links and full alignment”.

So I might seek a price on this.

Apart from the noise, which is not a nuisance, the car is still great.

 
Thought I would contribute as recently had a similar issue with suspension noise. I agree with val73 regarding a complete re torque. I recently had a new oil pump fitted at Tonbridge Porsche (warranty fix) to solve an 'oil pressure monitoring fault'. I'll post a separate thread for that saga !

The subframe had to come out to access the pump. Got the car back but noticed creaking noises from suspension and especially when turning full lock at slow speeds.

Basically everything was re torqued and now cured. Loving the car in every way, apart from fuel consumption !!!! 2011 Turbo S 48k miles. Also did my first launch the other day. Takes your breath away ! cheers Mike

 
Hi All

on my GTS the suspention is noisy and hard but I think it’s the nature of the beast.

This year it developed a noise in passenger foot well started when you manoeuvre slowly

the dealership said it was Hose feeding air suspension so they changed that then seemed to be ok so thought it was fixed then about three weeks later it started again.

Back to Porsche Solihull they then changed control unit / pump that sorted it another warranty job.

This would of been another major expense if not for the warranty.

I have had the GTS for over thre years now it still makes me smile when I drive it I always drive with the spoiler up ,yes it does Turn heads.
