Someone has cut and welded a panel after an accident so I'm removing the botched panels and replacing with new OEM panels and cleaning...repainting....and protecting the boot area including all new carpets etc
 
When possible I have decided to stay original but at times I think a few mods are necessary to this end I decided the Porsche battery tray was a pain it prevents proper corrosion protection so I have cut it out and designed my own bolt in version which was laser cut and welded this was then plated for corrosion protection and will go to powder coat this week to make it look original

Ken you mentalist! My effort in this respect were limited to fitting a new hatch lock grommet and what an absolute b*stard of a job it is! Probably not possible without Vaseline and needle nosed pliers. You will actually have a new car soon. [:D]

I have No car maintenance experience and I apologise in advance for the excess of pictures but X factor and Strictly are doing my head in so I have to do something to keep sane.....

Seeing the pictures of the boot area on Hairyarses car I decided to make mine look just as good, the boot area on my car is not so good with evidence of a botched accident repair I set to work stripping everything out.....the rear lock always bugged me as the paint is scratched on the barrel

Took it apart and powder coated the holder and cleaned and lubricated

Whilst I was at it I plated all the lock components the rear lights looked a bit oxidised so I plated all the terminals and the backing plates

I can repair to as new standard I will ...if not then I buy new.........
 
Cheers Simon[:D] I do however need a little bit of help from a forum member...... Can someone with a 91 turbo se photograph the options label in boot as I want to re-create one, I have the info from the log book which relates to my car but want to get the correct text and layout etc
 
It will be identical to the label on page three of your service book (assuming that both labels were stuck in their respective places).

Fantastic! That battery tray is a pain. I stopped short of cutting mine out and welding it back in when I did the rear quarter and I regret it now!

I think it will work well[:)]....I allways make 2 just in case! so if anyone wants to go to the trouble of fitting one I have a spare not plated not powdercoated just need to cover the postage[:)]
 
mate that is tidy! don't really like black rims but those are so shiny they work! love it! ps are you plating and coating yourself? if not how much does getting little things done cost?

Powder coating is done buy a friend who owns a coating company so it's free Plating prices vary so much I use Derby plating min charge is £35 but I have had a bill for £300 ...they polish the parts before plating so the finish is allways spot, and they do it in 5 days as they only do classic cars I trust them all be it at a cost! I also rate surfaceprocessing limited they strip and electophetically (excuse spelling) prime parts. They are doing all my replacement panels which will be welded in shortly[:)]
 
Id be interested in the tray Ken, if its still available? Mine is poor, but I havent investigated too far for fear of finding out...
 
Some idiot had cut and welded panels in the back, see the cut through the latch mounting surface and under all that seam sealer was a 5mm gap where the panels had not been aligned correctly

Never done any body work before but, I guess I can do a better job than the guy who did this repair so I purchased a spot weld drill on ebay and had a go[:)] All the bodged panels now removed

Some of panels I need are No longer available from Porsche so I purchased a rear end from the scrap yard drilled out the bit I need then stripped and E-primed

Going to get a expert to help me weld it back in
 
FINALLY got my car back new panels all welded in I will start the prep for paint next week

with the battery tray removed all the rust can be easily sorted [:)] i just need to coat in epoxy for that extra bit of protection new battery support bracket welded in

Looks fantastic Ken. That rear quarter well is really, really clean and I do know what a grotty one looks like!

there are 2 vac lines that are blocked off visible in the picture above is this because of the MBC thats fitted?

Yes, those lines would have gone to the cycling valve (CV) which has been deleted and the MBC now controls boost instead. The CV is an electronic valve that opens and closes upon instruction from the KLR computer which controls boost

Thanks[:)] If I re-instate the cycling valve do I only loose boost at the top end of the rev range? will it be OK with my tial wastegate? will re-mapping be able to minimise the loss of boost? I want it mainly stock, but want to update any weak points
