Headlight Adjustment for Driving on the Right

Has anybody successfully changed the headlights over for continental driving on a 991 that does not have PDLS?

I had a look in the manual and it looked relatively straightforward and not dissimilar to the method for the 997. However, having got the light unit out and removed the 4 screws to release the cover plate it does not look the same as the pictures in the manual. There does not appear to be a lever to move anywhere within the light unit.

Also putting the unit back in was more awkward than with the 997, it would be very easy to scratch the paint on the edge of the headlight opening unless you are very careful.

I had the same experience when I took delivery of my CS 981. The OPC tried to show me how easy this was to do myself but when they got the light units out there was no lever to switch, they said they would ask the other techies and get back to me but I never heard back from them about it.
It seems no 991 / 981 owner take the cars to Europe, or bother to adjust the lights, either that or they all have PDLS unlike you and me.[;)]

My experience with the manual is that it is quite inaccurate to say the least. The fuses in my 991 are quite different to those laid out in the manual which has pictures of a left hand drive care. Even if you use a mirror image it is not correct. The fuse diagram in the previous generations consisting of a folded diagram place on the inside of the fuse cover plate was totally accurate. Oh for progress!!

I agree with you about the manual, similar for the 981 Manual too, as admitted by Reading.

e.g. No mention of the aux power sockets only remaining powered up as long as there is a current flowing, so if you dont plug in your battery charger / maintainer immediately after switching off, the aux sockets power down. It does say they power off after 30 mins, which is misleading.

The answer is, it's not as straightforward as the 997.

Last year I took my 991 into my OPC prior to our French trip with the 997 Register. I even took my camera along to do a 'here's the simple steps to change your lights over' thread. Alas, all did not go to plan, as the technician, despite having all the factory info, found the little plastic switch snapped off, and there was an unfortunately rattling noise in the unit as a result [:(] Fortunately I was not in a hurry and a new unit was duly delivered and installed in my absence. the reverse procedure was not a problem.

This is why I would recommend the cornering light option when spending a new car as the alteration can be done from the comfort of the driving seat [;)]

I would not risk doing it myself again, and last trip took some sticky lens covers with me in case I was stopped, but didn't need to use them in the end.
