The answer is simple... Don't insure through Admiral.

Ooh, Geoff, you’re so cutting (hee, hee)

The saga continues...
After numerous letters back and forth to the police as they seemed unable to answer my questions and in my latest letter to them I asked the question ' what circumstances determine whether or not a speed awareness course is considered'

Their response
'With regard to the London Speed Awareness Scheme drivers exceeding 50mph do not qualify for consideration of an offer'

Surely this is incorrect information?

A few years back when I collected 3 points I was told that only drivers breaking a 30mph limit (and below 39mph) were eligible for a speed awareness course (Wiltshire). I think who is eligible will vary from area to area depending on the resources at their disposal so the information may very well be correct.

I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I'm going.

I'd probably apply to AAAPPP or others... I mean, I didn't have any experience with involving third party organizations, but you don't know what is true and what's not nowadays

This is the link to the policy in Lancashire: https://www.lancashire.police.uk/media/316665/thresholds-for-sac.pdf.  In my experience, the policy is very similar in many other forces but I have not dealt with them all.

For speeding in a 50mph zone, they offer eligible drivers a speed awareness course for speeds between 58mph - 64mph.  Eligible drivers are those who have not been on a course in the last 3 years.  Ineligible drivers are offeres a fixed penalty in lieu.

For the sake of completeness, no action is taken for speeds of 51mph to 57mph.  Lancashire Constabulary offer fixed penalty only from 65mph - 75mph in a 50mph limit and prosecute through Court for speeds of 76mph and above.  The fixed penalty is therefore much more generous than the Sentence Guidelines.

sebrussellsmith - you haven't been speaking to someone who thought you were speeding in a 30mph zone do you?  50mph in a 30mph zone is the threshold speed for straight to summons...
