CDR-23/Bose intermittent fault

I've got the CDR-23 with Bose/MOST "upgrade" fitted in my MY03 986S. It's developed an annoying intermittent fault, whereby it won't turn on. When you press the "on" button the PORSCHE name comes up on the display and it just hangs/sticks and won't turn on. The word stays on the screen. It can sometimes be fixed by turning off the stereo, turning off the car, removing the key, wait a few secs and then starting again. But this labourious process does not always cure the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a reset I can do to the stereo whilst the car is running (it's annoying to have to turn the car off and not practical once I'm moving!).

Any ideas or tips?

Its one of a few common faults with the CDR-23 (and not much better on the CDR-24) - displaying a STOP messge is the more common one. Porsche replaced soemunits under warranty, only for them to perform properly when tested at the factory (not surprising for a intermittent fault). Pressing buttons TP 1 and 4 together for a few seconds resets the head unit - doesn't cure the issue long term, but it all helps !

I had similar some years ago. Hasn't done it since I had the ignition switch replaced. Think it was something to do with faulty contacts. Sounds odd but true. This didn't solve the problem of the system occasionally losing all my settings when turning on though, which it still does when the planets are aligned in a certain way, about 4 times/year.

Mine does the same occassionally! I'd also be interested to find out why it does it! I had put it down to just being a bit temperamental!!!

I've experienced the same, I removed the fuse for the amplifier to check if it had blown (it was fine) and when I put it back into the fuse box the stereo sprang into life, I put this down to either a resistance building up in the wiring/fuse connector or slight corrosion on the fuse "spades". Its been fine for 6 months but re-occured the other day, on this occasion a simple switch off the ignition and switch on brought the sound back. I'm thinking its probably the sound amplifier circuit more than the stereo unit. I suggest resetting your stereo/amp fuses in the driver footwell fuse panels to see if it clears your problem for a while. cheers

Mine did it too. Also, it would have the annoying habit of losing the last radio station when I started the car after it had been off overnight. All I got was white noise. It was replaced a couple of weeks ago on a warranty I had on the car. By the way, I'm led to believe that the OPC charged about £500 for the replacement. I have seen CDR 23's go for less than £100 on fleabay.

Hi There

I have an old 03 Boxster S, which I love. It has the CDR 23 Radio/CD Unit. There is also the factory fitted Bose speaker system. The Radio/CD unit lights up as if on, but, there is no sound coming out of it. Removed the unit and there was no speaker leads connected to the system. Any help/information on what I should be looking for to connect to the Bose sound system.

Thanks

Alan
