944 turbo front brake disc options

I might need to replace the front discs.

My car is a ’91 turbo and is slightly modified but no bhp monster. I‘ll probably use it as a daily. Normal to fast road driving.

From memory, I have Ferodo ds2500 pads with plenty of life in them.

The wheels are 17” cup II. I’ve got a set of 18” split rims but also think I’ll eventually put 16” d90’s back on the car.

Ideally, I’d like something with real bite and nothing too specialist or track focused etc.
Which discs do you suggest I consider?

Assuming you have the larger 928 brakes, I went through the mill a few years ago trying to find a good set-up that not only worked, but also didn't squeal!

Through trial and error the Pagid discs from Euro Car Parts mated to Textar front pads was the best option. The discs are quite cheap, I think I paid maybe £80 for the pads and only about £45 per disc.

On the rear I also have the Pagid discs, but with Brembo pads. Good stopping power, minimal dust and no squealing. Avoid the Euro Car Parts Pagid pads. They are like pigs on a barbeque!

On the subject of Pagid, I think ECP own the brand name now, so you probably don't know the real manufacturer, however the discs are decent and priced well. I think I'm 3 or 4 years with them on now and they are still good and straight.

Cheers

Don't recall what the previous 2 sets of pads were, but they both squealed down to standstill. Textar pads sorted that out though.

Would be tempted to try a set of EBC D995 at just over £200 for a pair or just under £300 for a grooved and dimpled pair - would probably go with the plain myself. Anyone used them?

Apparently bigger discs from a Porsche Chelsea tractor fit, and are reasonably cheap. And I think there are 996 calipers that can be used with an adapter too.

Seems they are Cayenne discs and lookalike big red Dansk calipers. Lindsey Racing are knocking out the kits with adapters, out for around $1200. So the parts are probably a lot cheaper than that individually.
