Re-commissioning gliches

Having repurchased my 944 Turbo after 10 years I've been re-commissioning it to get it back to a standard acceptable to me. Its only done 650 miles in those 10 years. So I've had the brake pipes replaced and the callipers refurbished, all the fuel lines replaced. The door locks and window winders replaced. I've had the A/C system overhauled with new seals and condenser. I've also had the injectors tested and refurbished...a worthwhile exercise at just over £100. Replaced the 2009 battery
However there have been one or 2 glitches which I can best describe as annoying intermittent electrical faults which I put down to dry joints.. after a bit of going up blind alleyways to over come these, I've found the solution. With the engine running and the drivers window inoperative and the A/C dead but switched on...... waggling the ignition key brings them both to life!!!
Are ignition switches available new and if so any idea of the cost?

Yes, available new. Worth asking your Porsche dealership as they can sometimes surprise you with affordable parts, especially for the classics like yours. (Sometimes the surprise is the other kind, so be sitting down, just in case...) The electrical part can be replaced without changing the whole very expensive steering lock unit. PS you didn't mention if you've changed the timing and balance shaft belts. If not, do so.
PPS Don't forget you get a Club discount on parts at the dealership, and if you use Design 911, theres a discount code in Porsche Post for them too.
 
Steve, thanks for that, I've had a look at your link and costs seem reasonable. the other day when i was out the A/c cut out when I went over a bump and came back on when I touched the key! I looked for a video of the work involved but could only find a 911 video. It looks a real nightmare to get the 2 screws out that hold the barrel. The guy talks about a temporary screw driver made from bent sheet metal to reach the top one.. anyone experience of this operation?

I did change one, but it's so long ago I don't recall the details. It was fiddly, but I managed it from below the dash, on my back with head in the footwell. I don't recall making any special tools. Just get in and have a go, get the old one out and the rest should be straightforward.

This link might help, but note that removing the steering wheel and instrument cluster as they did, while it will improve access, is not strictly necessary.
