Sue Kemp, who is Chair of the York Group of the IAM spoke with some R7 members last week, and discussed Advanced Driving with the York IAM Group. She has asked for the following to be passed on to any R7 member who might be interested:

The IAM ADC (Advanced Driving Course) with York IAM Group:

We are a friendly group and our driving courses start usually every three months.

Our next course will start on 13 May 2023 with our usual Saturday morning training session at Pike Hills Golf Club (on the A64 at Copmanthorpe). The morning is spent getting to know people in a pleasant environment and includes my introduction to the Group, and details of the course which is led by our Training Manager - Ian Goring.
We currently have two places available on this course… and plenty more later in the year.
Following this initial meeting all your in car training sessions would be arranged to suit client and trainer (we call them Observers) geography / availability - so on days / times that work for both of you. Usually the course includes on average 9/10 driving sessions with one of our volunteer IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) qualified Observers. Ideally people drive weekly, and we allow approximately 12 weeks for each course.

Mid course we organise a 'meet the examiner' evening and we book the Advanced Driving Test for you when you are ready.
NB: The test is not obligatory - but most people do take it, and 50 passed with York Group in 2022.

We demonstrate and encourage driving with skill, responsibility and consideration - safety within and around the vehicle is always our primary objective - please be assured ‘advanced’ driving is not elitist or fast! We strive to update current driving skills, correct bad habits and increase confidence where required - the training is tailored to your needs.

You can see more information on the IAM website, the course costs £175. https://www.iamroadsmart.com/courses/advanced-driver.

We also have bi-monthly meetings at Pike Hills - certainly social, but with a focus on ROAD SAFETY. We share relevant road safety updates and information with the help of guests from York Police Road Safety, National Highways, IAM RoadSmart, and many others.

KEEP KIDS SAFE
Our joint road safety initiative with the North Yorkshire Police Fire & Crime Commissioner is currently providing
100 Advanced Driving Courses for people who drive regularly with children - details below. [[(subject to the course requirements being fulfilled)
Do you drive regularly with children?
Yes? Then you could be eligible to join one of our ADCs in this way...
Please note - there is a special code to purchase in this manner, and we need to talk to you first in order to
fully outline the course requirements.

We look forward to welcoming you to York Advanced Drivers.
If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards
Sue Kemp
