AC not working again

Having just fixed my roof problems, discovered yesterday that the ac ain't working, AGAIN.
Gas was replaced back in 2016 just before I bought the car.
In 2018, one of the condensers failed, so I replaced both condensers and fitted a new drier and got it gassed up again.
The car has hardly turned a wheel over the last 6 months. During winter usage I normally put the ac on for a few minutes to keep the compressor seals lubricated but this winter the car just hasn't been used.
So am wondering whether I have lost the gas again, this time through the dried out compressor seals.
I have a Mitsubishi FTO which is almost 30 years old which is still running on the same gas which was in the system when I bought the car 17 years ago.

These cars are a touch fragile in many places where 'normal' cars seem to just work, and work and wo...

Porsche do not make these systems, they buy the parts just a, say, Skoda do.

The fragility appears in the installation in the car and the exposeur to the elements.

Poor design relay and could learn lessons from many other manufacturers imho.

Graham makes some good points there Keith, but I’d add that having the engine at the rear introduces a lot more pipework and connections and therefore more scope for potential leakage.

Plus, I never turn-off the a/c on my cars, summer or winter, and let the (essential!) optional climate control do its job.

Yep, that thought had crossed my mind that the engine is in the "rear" where the gas compressor is, the hvac unit is behind the dash (the ac evaporator) and the condensers at the front where they are prone to all sorts of crap being thrown at them.

When I replaced the condensers 5 years ago I added some mesh to the bumper ducts.

But as you say, there are a lot of pipes between the ac functional parts in aluminium prone to corrosion, physical damage and joint failure.

Its just that I fix one issue and another arises.

I need to use it more perhaps.

Certain areas of the car has exceptional design.

e.g. the roof that is removeable in 30-40 mins

Then really odd design, e.g. the heat exchanger fans positioned in front of the front wheels, where the fan blade tips are fitted with a shroud that runs inside the mounting assembly shroud and where small stones are thrown at it by the front tyres.

Checked both fans this afternoon, offside fn was seized solid by small stones jammed in the gap between the two shrouds.

Very poor design.

AC fixed.

No leaks.

It was 5 years since last charged with new gas, apparently new style gas loses its ability to function as it gets older and if left to idle and the ac system not operated.

There was some gas still in the system but the pressure was below the pressure switch setting so thats why it did not work.

Had a vacuum test, fill/extraction valve sealing checked and then regassed.

£100.
