A708 horrific potholes

A708 today went from my favourite to most detested road.
Hit a series of 3 unavoidable huge potholes at about 60mph, two of which must have virtually covered the width of the road.
Front left tyre now has a bulge, so both front tyres will need replaced at only 8,500 non-track miles.
No doubt the alignment will be needing correction, too, so already looking at the best part of £1000 and praying there's no damage to the suspension or drivetrain mounts.
Take great care if you plan to drive this otherwise fantastic road.

Wanted to include image but dragging from computer to message editor isn't working for me, and I'm not interested in uploading to an image hosting site.

Thanks, but that doesn't show in my browsers - Chrome and Safari on macOS, Safari on iOS.
Maybe my account lacks the required permission.

Owen,

If you use the (Open Full Version) rather than Quick Reply, (hopefully?) that will get you to the file upload facility.

^^^ This. Go back and take photos and take your tape measure with you. Log the time and date of the incident and email the council. At the same time apply for a FOI request asking for their maintenance schedule at that area and any other reports and claims that have been made.

FYI ... Potholes and Road Conditions | Thorntons Solicitors (thorntons-law.co.uk)

Under the terms of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, a Scottish roads authority has a statutory legal obligation to manage and maintain its road network. In practice, this means carrying out regular inspections of their road network and arranging for any necessary road repairs to be undertaken within a reasonable time.

When I attempted to claim for a damaged tyre, against the local City Council I was immediately passed to their insurers who proceeded to `guide` me through the council`s road inspection and associated LEGAL process. As expected the process protected the insurance company - council and was not worth my effort to pursue, I hope that you have more luck than I

That was first thing I tried, Jeff :)
No luck.
Thanks, anyway.

Sorry to hear this. Make a claim against the Council for any damage to your car

The car didn't break down, so I'm sure the Council would argue that the damage could have happened anywhere in the UK.

If the tyre had burst, or the wheel broke, or some other catastrophic failure had required breakdown assistance then I might have had a chance of winning a claim. However, that didn't happen and I'm thankful that didn't happen since the consequences could be far more serious than damage to a vehicle.

I live on the A708 near Yarrow and yes it's a disgrace , not only the pot holes but just the general condition of the road between Yarrow and Yarrowford, it's appalling. Sorry your car got damaged, that's bad.

Thanks, Stephen. You're so fortunate to have such stunning scenery on your doorstep. My misadventure was between St Mary's Loch and Moffat, probably quite near Carrifran Wildwood, so be extra vigilant when you head that way.
