Air conditioning condensers

So after investigating a whirring noise when the fan is running on my air conditioner im told that i need two new condensers etc and that they arent covered under warranty. Because its "impact damaged" Has anyone else had this experience. seems to me there is no visible damage but that their position at the front of the car is a design flaw if they are damaged in "normal use” especially when the suggestion is 2k+ to replace

The condensers are a bone of contention for many 911 models due to their location, either through stone damage but also they can rot out at the bottom due to muddy debris sitting there, or genuine leaks from the joints which should be covered by the warranty. I would ask to see both of them when removed to see where the problem really lies. Either way you'll need them fixed unfortunately. As you're no doubt aware the Club discount on parts will be well worth having.

As Peter says, it's a common problem for water-cooled 911's. You can read a little more about it here https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=979501 (you need to be logged in). The first thing many of us do after collecting our cars is to fit mesh to the PU.

If you have just purchased the car, take it up with your dealer, who may be prepared to contribute. Otherwise, use the club discount for replacement parts and take steps to fit mesh the front apertures.

Clive

As Clive says, this is unfortunately a common problem, and another thread worth reviewing is here: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/FindPost/1065163.

I fell foul of a rock hitting my condenser and having to have it replaced, and received the same information from my local Porsche OPC that the necessary repair would not be covered under warranty. I complained to Porsche GB and received a £300 goodwill payment towards the repair and also asked for it to be logged with Porsche Germany as it clearly is a design fault and one which is not shared with GT3 / GT4 models. All to no avail, because 992 models now share exactly the same issue.

Fitting grilles does seem to be the best option, but this is also not straightforward as the thread I have quoted outlines.

Hmm. Interesting well a sort of acknowledged design flaw but also one they have failed to fix for 20 years! Seems madness to me especially to then deny warranty claims

Alas i suspect i have to bite the bullet, get a discount and find
some mesh! Anyone with recent experience of hand crafting/with instructions i would love to hear from. Im not afraid of a bit of diy, but equally im not known for attention to detail…

997 is very similar to 991, so should provide you with an adequate guide.
I also recently posted DIY steps for 992 with some latest info here.
