Mandatory Software Update

Has anyone had the new Mandatory Software Update relating to EU fuel figure regs? If so how long did it take and what is your experience regarding its impact?

I have just received the letter too, my car is already booked in for ALA2 in April, so I suppose they will do it at the same time. I am a little nervous however, I hope it does not overwrite the mapping I have on the car, that would be a shame, but I think it probably will.

I've received a letter too.... I have a turbo. I'm told that there is a correction in the coasting system required as well as an update to the engine management software in order to comply with type approval parameters re. fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In view of recent car manufacturer scandals it's not surprising to view all this with some suspicion.

Yes. And that there were disparities between the data used for type approval and that that went into production.
I suppose the question that needs to be asked is was the type approval data used for advertising, promotion and customer advice? And has it been discovered to be misleading which is the unstated suspicion.
If, as they say, they have ’proactively reported’ the issue why has it taken getting on 10 years and two further generations. And, maybe, an entire engine change!

Yes I view with great suspicion and wonder whether any software upgrade will have an adverse affect on performance, even though the letter states that 'the type approved values for engine power and maximum torque remain unchanged with the new software'.
The wording in the second paragraph seems a little vague and non descriptive which is rather odd!

Mine’s booked in Tewkesbury for 23 March.
They tell me it should take 1-2 hours so have elected not to have a loaner as despite my complaining they were insisting on £15 for temporary insurance! Bit of a cheek as this is a mandatory visit. Had the same request for a warranty job some weeks ago so went elsewhere.

Yes. If power, performance and economy are unaffected why bother. What exactly is it that needs ‘adjustment’?

Probably in the same stable as Dieselgate where the car was entered into a special mode when it detected it was being tested.

Just got the letter for my Macan S, I am reading the coasting paragraph:-
"The normal coasting function can still be activated manually by the driver depending on the driving situation" As far as I am aware this is automatic when the car is in normal mode and you have your foot off the gas unless you have a trailer attached. Sport and Sport+ deactivates the coast mode too.
"But this is no longer automatic" So if this is no longer automatic are we getting a push button to do the activation/deactivation?

We need a more detailed explanation of the update I think..

Coasting has always been available manually by simply changing up until it engages. That, it appears, will continue.

Ah didn't know that but it makes sense, is that available in all modes?
I am to lazy to use the paddles, let the box manage itself apart from when i am towing..

Has anyone had the update done yet... if so, any thoughts?
Thanks

Had it done at Tewkesbury about a month ago: took about 2 hours.
Albeit I haven’t done many miles since nothing really seems to have changed except for the ‘glide’ function - or whatever it’s called - which now must be manually engaged, and mpg seems much the same.

Hope it works better than a similar "upgrade" on MB diseasals whereby top gear wasn't used in auto until you were doing 75mph plus...

Had mine carried out at Porsche York on 20th April.
Major difference is that auto stop/start now seems to work?
Prior to update engine hardly ever/never shut down when stationary.
Post update, did it 3 times within first 200 yards of leaving dealers!!
Car seemed more responsive in comfort mode however I suspect that due to the update, it may have to relearn driving styles etc.

The vehicle will often override its stop/start function in low air temperature, when the engine is not warmed up or there a heavy demand on the electrical system such as cold engine, aircon, lights on etc. etc.

I suspect the vehicle was up to temperature and electrical demands were low when you departed from the dealer.

Regards,

Clive

+1. Mine has always been consistent in its inconsistency. And no different post-update.
