Front blower fan

When I start my car, the fan winds up to full speed and then dies.

So, the fan clearly works, but, for some reason, cuts out almost immediately, leaving just a wisp of air coming through the vents.

Sounds like it can't be that complicated.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
 
I recall an unusual problem that seemed to be the front fan and turned out to have been caused by a blown fuse that powered the rear fan. Fuse in the panel in the box on the left side of the engine bay. Long time ago & can’t exactly remember the symptoms. Hope this helps.

I’ve remembered one more thing.. It was the wiring inside the engine mounted blower motor that had become intermittently disconnect that was the root cause in my case. I suspect that may have had a hand in blowing the fuse too.


As I recall my front fan ran normally when the temp control was at minimum but failed when heat was called for. My car does not have AC.

My own CCU unit failed (to operate both front/rear fans) probably more than 5 years back. And this was just when I replaced the rear blower Bosh motor too [annoying]. Some point I'll get round to sending off the CCU to Tore. However, I don't rely on the rear blower to keep the cabin warm in cold winter driving, so not an inconvenience tbh. The rear blower used to blow fuses for many until Porsche sent a bulletin out to bump up the fuse rating. The CCU is the 'brain' for when, what speed and what temps both the rear blower and front oil cooler operate. Tore is the master of all things CCU and can recondition the CCU unit once removed from the car.

Out of interest, if you played with any of the CCU controls (engine idling) do you get any reaction from anything? And does the front oil cooler low and high speed fan operate normally?

Quite a lot to unpack there.

What I don't get it why the fan blows full blast when the engine starts, for a moment and then dies completely.
 
Rear blower fan you mean - when the engine is cold on first startup?
yup, a bit of a mind mess working through it - but then in it's day it was a technological advance! CCU is playing you up I think Colin. Check with Tore the cost and time to take for a complete refurb.

btw - you at Le Mans this year?

Probably, I'm driving down first ferry Thurs AM, lunch at Gace then onward. Couldn't get into Porsche Curves this year (unsurprisingly) but managed to get a place with Team Langoustine right on Tetre Rouge, so handy for the race village too. You - day and ferry timings?
 
Sorry I missed you, I was in Village on the Curves.

The fan suddenly started working again, so must be a loose connection somewhere. It hasn't worked for months Thankfully, the day before I was setting off for Le Mans.
