Hi everyone, it's time to pull off those dust sheets in the garage and turn our attention towards another Porsche year. The calendar is starting to fill up and there are events in February and March to look forward to.
Take a look here:-

Some aren't open for booking yet as we're finalising details with the venue, but they are going to happen, keep your eyes open and I'll post on here when they are open for booking.

Morning Simon.
Good to see the calendar is filling up nicely.

If I may, a couple of suggestions for future events. Visit to Road and Race Restorations in Worsley, a Dyno Day and maybe a run around the Evo Triangle.

WRT the WhatsApp runs, these are very popular however, I have found that many of those attending do every one and it really is a case of whoever has the fastest fingers. Might I suggest a run solely for new members or those who haven't been on a run before? This may well be a way of encouraging those who are a little unsure to come along and I would strongly suggest the use of walkie talkies as on my first and only run I got left behind! Not a criticism in any way but just a suggestion of making the experience a little better and safer plus the radio banter is good fun.

The pop up club meets is a great idea. I live about 45 mins away from the Three Greyhounds and although a fabulous venue, it would be nice to have something a little closer to home so I can stay a little longer.

I'd also like to see a region organised Le Mans 24 hour/classic or even factory tour visit. I know both these events are very popular in the Club from a national perspective but, again, it seems to be a case of places being given to those have attended before rather than encouraging new or junior members to attend. Martin Davies and I have both expressed our views on this.

I'm very grateful to those who give up their time to arrange these events as I was an event organiser for a car club many years ago and I know they can take up a lot of time so many thanks.

Dan.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for taking the trouble to put down some constructive suggestions. I'll raise the venues you identified at our next committee meeting. On the drive outs, I'll talk to Jon Kenwell about how we manage them, as you can appreciate its a balancing act between admin and simplicity but spreading the net of participants as widely as possible is desirable. On the subject of radios, we do have some in the possession of R5, so we can see if some of those sets can be available on a drive out. I'm sure we could do a trip to the EWVO triangle, its a full day by the time we've got there and done a few laps but its certainly doable. It's a 5/6 hour day from Cheshire by the time you've got there and had a play.

On the Le Mans matter, Martin Davis has been involved with an R5 trip to the classic event with Classic Le Mans | Trackside Camping | Booking ferry, racing tickets and camping | Lycian Events. I think this has worked pretty well, and to my knowledge everyone who has wanted to go has been able to attend. If I've misinterpreted this, I'm sure Martín will correct me in short order! I've been to the Porsche Museum on my own, but not a factory tour. To be honest, I'm not sure that this is something that the committee would be willing to organise off their own bat... Never say never, but I think someone would have to be doing it themselves in any event before committing to a week's holiday to such a trip.

Thanks again,

See you soon,

Yours,

Simon

Organising long trips away is a major headache. Several other regions use Scenic Car Tours https://www.sceniccartours.com/ to do it for them, usually based on one of their standard offerings. We've been on several of them with other regions. Might be something for R5 to consider.
