Boxster Spyder 987 Major Service @ OPC

Just been quoted £2.6k for a Major Service including Drive Belt & Plug change at my nearest OPC (Solihull) seems steep compared to the price of my last Major. Any recent benchmarks?

I guess I could go Indy, but may impact my extended Warranty (unless I agree to a 111 check?)

That’s over double the cost for my 981. Did you ask for the club discount and anything else as the car is ‘old’ ? Also depends on what they include…does it include transmission oil change for example ?

I would suggest canvassing other OPC’s if you want to keep within the Porsche Network.

the 981 is not 12 years old, the 12 year service is massive inc full coolant drain 1st time and renewal and 1st gear box oil swap, plus every thing else plugs belts etc. OPC is about £2.6k plus extra they will find like coolant leaks which are common so extra parts needed there also.

Is your Spyder PDK or Manual ? is it a 12year major service as that includes all oils and fluids and if PDK  oil change is expensive done every 6yrs  ...that seems expensive  would get detailed item by item cost,if you have warranty no choice I would think  .Heard someone got a service done at a trusted specialist and then wanted to get a warranty had to pay for 111 check and reserviced again would not accept previous work I believe less than months earlier  .It seams prices at OPC have gone through the roof thing most charge £180+vat hr ...oil 7.5ltrs £19lts   you can buy 10lts most places under  £60  ...dont fall for the top up oil and screen wash  pack .they charge £78 for the gunk kit again no choice if warranty in place

I thought all Porsche Dealers used the official Porsche menu prices for service costs, so generally they all should be quoting from the same menu prices, that’s what happened when we had our last service and shopped around, all came up with the same price. Neither were we offered any PCGB discount just a discount on the MOT price.

If you want to renew the extended warranty then the immediately preceding service does have to have been performed by an OPC.  I’ve seen several reports where from owners who have been told that earlier service work would have to be repeated so it does seem to be enforced.

As has been suggested get a full itemised breakdown to ensure its all necessary and use this to shop around - it is definitely possible to for costs to vary significantly between dealerships even within the same group.

The price is what it is, they don't care much, us a an OPC or goto an indy for £1200. Why have a warranty on these at 12 years old ? Nothing is covers by them bar engine and gear box. much cheaper to self warranty and have an indy service them imo.

As the 987 is included in Porsche Classic will it now have a cheaper hourly rate. Last summer I was quoted £1350 after discount for all 12 year work by the OPC.
Local indy was £850 including gearbox oil change ( manual )

So agree with above re going to an indy (especially for a car of 12 years old), OPC's seem to have lost the plot on service pricing.

100% agree OPCs have lost the plot outrageous prices recently.
Doing themselves no favours with price and the service we are getting all for the sake of a Porsche stamp in the book, why bother most older models with never be bought back by OPCs.
Older out of warranty stick to a good Indy most have a reputable recognised stamp.

If your nearest OPC is Solihull, then Zuffenhaus are not far away and I’d give them a call to at least get a quote. They’re in the back of Porsche Post, feedback I’ve seen has been good and my 1 minor experience with them was good (to replace the bonnet release switch in the door sill).

For sure their unit looks a little untidy from outside but that doesnt impact how they service your car. If you get a quote you can then decide how much you value a nice looking dealership, posh coffee and the OPC stamp….

Zuffenhaus have serviced my 2009 987.2 for the last 4 years.
Top place, always straight and clear.
Call Paul there for the details on your car and see what is said.
Reputable well known indie, good stamp to have in the book.
As said, not glamorous like the OPC's, but you get the job done reasonably.

No longer. They say they can’t due to widely varying labour rates around the country.  Some may still be using/guided by the ‘Total Transparency’ pricing that was

I phoned loads of places none were any where near that cheap, a lot quoted cheap but missed stuff  off what a 12 year needed, and really did not know what was involved with the 12 year and I am talking all the 3 bigger main indies !!!    Did you have a full coolant flush and renew also ?
All the main bigger indy were big money once I told them what was DUE , but I did not give them the work because they did not know what to do on my car !!! , I paid £1280 for the 12 year in the end (indy), but then needed further work doing due to a small coolant leak found so had new hoses etc and seems very common a lot of people seem to already have had coolant hoses and work done.

I sold my GT3 as my OPC wanted £5k at 4 years so just binned the car off, Porsche seem worse than Ferrari now for costs as you get 7 years free with Ferrari and 5 years warranty inc in the rrp.  Porsche prices are up 300% in the last 10 years :-(
they are so busy and sell so many cars they have enough work so are very lazy, OPC are not nice places to visit now days which is a shame.

We must be quite lucky up here as we have 2 indys , both of which were the head honchos at different times at the service department at the OPC so know the cars well and what is needed.

Think the trick is sell it on before 12 years old
Honestly pre Porsche days other marques I can't ever remember changing any transmission fluids coolant changes, a general service when I felt it needed it just drove it with no dramas.
