992 GTS ppf

Been looking at speccing a 992 GTS and just wondering whether it is worthwhile getting front end ppf done at factory (circa £1,500). Be interested to here from anyone who has got factory ppf done, i.e. is it any good, or better to get it done after purchase etc?

I had the factory ppf on my 992 C2S but it had some problems with the front wing which had to be reapplied. Apparently, the car had to be taken to Reading for this to be done.

So this time around with my new car, the OPC suggested Topaz in Bristol where a more extensive job was done, so can't compare price. However, the advantage was that, like factory, the ppf cost appeared on my OPC invoice as one of the original options, so if there is any comeback in the future that will be with the dealer, not Topaz.

Hi John
I got a 992 factory ppf'd last year. It was a bit of a test to see how good it was - installation at the factory is done by Xpel and I use Xpel in the UK and regard them as excellent.
I was disappointed by the factory installation but I am a perfectionist. I ended up getting the bonnet and front bumper re-done through Porsche at Xpel in the UK due to imperfections and slight "lift". I expect for some it might have been fine but for me it wasn't up to the standard of finish I expected. That said I think the price for the factory option is competitive.
I will revert to getting it done after purchase in future, also because there is more choice of films available (e.g. film precoated with ceramic coating, gloss, translucent).
I think one of the challenges for the installers at the factory is time pressure and limited space.
Hope this is helpful making a decision.

I had the PPF option done by the factory and I am more than happy with it. A top job and two years later its still looking good and no areas lifting.

I'm in 2 minds about PPF. ????
If you're going down that route have it done aftermarket - and local if possible - you'll have someone to moan at if it goes wrong and someone to turn to if it needs later repair. Also, most aftermarket installers exam and paint-correct before applying the film to ensure perfect results - probably not the case at the factory.

Have in mind, with the PPF applied, rectifying future damage doubles the cost of repair (coachwork, then PPF replacement). [:(]

Soon after getting the front end of my 911 done, a large stone chip went right through the film in the centre of the bonnet. It's an unsightly mark, but hasn't damaged the paint substrate. However, it'll cost £600 to replace the film, whereas with no PPF my local tame body-shop could have touched the chip in invisibly for around £50!

Regards,

Clive

Clive, good point I never thought about it costing that way round. I just ticked the factory application option for ours. If it’s wrong I’m totally confident that Porsche would fix anything that wasn‘t/isn’t perfect.
