Where are all the Early 911 members?
This is the 60th anniversary of the sale of the first Porsche car to carry the 911 model number (actually a 901) and there will be opportunities for us owners to come together and display our cars at many of the national events around the country.
The first one will be at the much improved Donington Historic race weekend, then at The Motorist, and at the Festival of Porsche at Brands Hatch.
I would like to have others as well but so far I have had only 2 members who have an interest in attending the Donington meeting, and no others apart from me, so we will have a very small display!
I just hope it doesn't rain.

Thanks to the few who ventured out to display their cars at the Donington Historic race weekend, it was a better display than I was expecting and I hope you enjoyed the two laps of the really superb race circuit on Saturday lunchtime.
On the Parade laps, I am sorry that some of you could not keep up with me and seemed to be a long way behind for a while, but did eventually manage to catch up, more than once!

Robin, thank you for taking some time out to talk to Sandra and I on Saturday your thoughts and insights were helpful. You mentioned two books that would help me. One was the red book, but I cannot recall the title of the other. Can you let me know the other title again please?

It was a pleasure to meet you at last and also your wife on Saturday. Emma and I had a fantastic day and will definitely be returning next year after such a thrilling couple of laps of the track and also captivated by some superb racing in the 3 hour pre-66 Pall Mall Cup.
Because I had bought parade lap tickets through MSV (not realising there was an option to do so thro the club - must have missed that email!), I was sent out at the back behind the Panameras but more enjoyably, immediately behind the beautiful Polo Red ‘67 S!! It was an absolute blast having some space to properly enjoy my car (first time on track in 50 years and only the 5th time out in the UK!)
Nice to see Elgin too in his Gulf Orange ‘73 T. Next year I may have my somewhat louder 2.5 ST to bring with me (although an hour on the M1 in it may not be Emma’s cup of tea - we shall see!…)

It is a good book to help identify the different models and all the various numbers, like chassis, engine, production dates exterior colours and numbers built and all the fine details that come with the changes each year of production.

If you can, try an whittle down which model, year, colour, etc that you want, the book Robin noted is great for this.
Also decide what you want the car for. Are you after a car to look at in the garage, regular driver, a complete wreck needing restoration.
And set your self a budget, this will need to be realistic, but once you have set your spec, start searching and you’ll soon work out whether the budget works.
I was always after a dogleg gearbox, matching numbers car with 2.2 engine and LHD (because they’re generally cheaper!), and ideally as original as possible. That started to narrow my search. I probably looked at 6 or so cars before I found one that I liked.
And make sure you have it inspected before purchasing!
Best of luck, you wont regret it.
