Oil seeping from the sump for the 3rd time in the same place

Hey all,

I've got a weep / slow leak from the front side engine sump. This is the 3rd time I've had the same issue, in the same place. At least 2, maybe 3 times, before I have taken the sump cover off, cleaned it up, resealed it with the loctite stuff and torqued all the bolts in pattern to the required spec .. I think its 12nm.

Each time I get this slow leak at the front in the same place.

No evidence of a leak above the pan.

Any ideas?

That does sound odd. Wonder if it has taken a knock and become warped or misshapen and therefore won’t sit flat. Hence it always weeps in the same spot? Did you try laying it down when dismantled to check it was true and flat? I’d imagine that it would only ever need to be fractionally warped to not form a good seal.

Just a suggestion. Hope you get it sorted.

Indeed, I though that also. I don't have a straight edge to check perfectly but it looked ok.
It uses the loctite sealant though so I would expect that to take up any slight mis-shape.

My only other thought is that the pan is cracked but it's so small that I cant see it.

I've ordered some crack detection spray to see if the sump cover / pan is cracked but its perhaps so small that I can't see it.

I had the same issue, turned out it was a tiny leak from one of the fins on the under side from a small scrape it received. I chased it for 2 days while car was on ramp changing out all control arms. I used JB weld to stop the leak while waiting for new sump to arrive.

Ouch those are not cheep are they :)
Will see later if it is a crack before a plump for a new pan.
