Calais > Le Mans - Rouen Crit-Air Zone - Do I Need to Re-route?

So I'm clear then; driving to the Le Mans 24 Hr this year means that me and my (standard) 964 will be 100% non-compliant (in any Crit-Air bracket - CO levels) in the new expanded zone around Rouen? :(

Been digging around and it seems that as from March this year new wider rules will apply making achieving a EURO n compliance sticker application pointless. Any air-cooled is off any exception list. Shame as I used to enjoy the drop-down in gear and pedal push through the Rouen tunnel.
 
I started looking into this (until the group I was travelling with decided on another route). Quite a few web pages referenced 'classics' being exempt, and cars over 30 years old counting as classic.
Unfortunately I couldn't find anything official/definitive......
 
In the end I inadvertently forgot to take the industrial road exit from the A28 after the Rouen tunnel and instead went straight through the city centre. Was expecting to get pulled over but nothing, totally ignored by all it seems from the old cars and trucks/vans also on the road. Even had two gendarmes on motorcycles whizz past and thinking I had been caught but again, nothing, not interested. Took the same route on the return trip.

2024 probably different if they go ahead with the Crit-Aire cameras. However, how they will link a foreign plate to a fine I wouldn't know and suspect (since Brexit) it'll be ignored. They'll be no notification to waiting town police either.
 
I'm not sure I understand the issue. Are you saying that the Crit Air cert is ignored or that your car is too old to qualify for one?

Both from current (French) feedback and my own experience, now that I've done the trip. While the rule is in place it seems it is not being reinforced (at least in Rouen). I went through the city centre and (also had a couple of gendarmerie on motorbikes pass me). Nothing, no interest from anyone or the police - mind you there were plenty of old local cars being driven around that definitely wouldn't pass. Maybe the locals are waiting for the cameras due next year before they take notice.

Any vehicle without a catalytic converter wouldn't achieve a Crit-Air sticker and those older than 30 years (so I read). Based largely on NOx emissions (different from say London ULEZ criteria). However, for Rouen the mayor earlier this year approved an exemption for vehicles considered classic and of interest - bit subjective I know. Right now it's more a case of on the spot fines from any police paying interest. Once the cameras are installed (and police monitoring stepping back) it will be automatic issuing of fines. However, since Brexit there is not the same data sharing arrangement, so who knows..

French government looking into providing classic cars with their own sticker. I suspect though it's pretty low on the priority list and a bit like Rouen, it'll be left up to regional city jurisdiction/responsibility to chase up (or not).
