Carcoon - Rusty Discs!

Help!

New car, 2 months old. Been in the garage in a carcoon from day 1. Checked today and saw rust colouring on the discs!!! I thought the carcoon was supposed to prevent that?

Should I now close up all ventilation gaps and heat the garage as well as using the carcoon?

I think that you will get rusty discs unless you have a completely dry environment, but does it really matter? Any rust will be removed as soon as the brakes are used.

surface rust as mentioned before is normal , maybe try silicone bags as a drying agent. TBh a new car needs to be driven some miles rather than stored as you need to iron out any issues and get back to the dealer.

Thanks Tim

I thought the carcoon gave me this though? The car doesn't get wet condensation wise so I was staggered to see this. I guess my 2 options are de-humidifier or heater.

Silicone bags - I could give them a go I suppose. Clean off what's there now and drop one by each wheel. I'm feeling like I need to close up any gaps and administer some heat .......

Were the disks wet when you parked it?  I find this a bit random in the sense that I can leave car in garage (unheated) all winter and some years in the spring the disks show zero sign of rust, but another time, only a couple of weeks parked up and there is a layer of rust.

As others have said, driving cures it!

Mark - no they were bone dry as I don't plan on taking the car out in the rain. I last drove her over a month ago so no contact with the outside at all since then.  I remember when I had a new 5 series and that came with rusty discs which I was annoyed about and BMW said the same thing, drive it and it will go. Forever squeaked though when parking and always came back after washing.

Dehumidifier you need to keep % humidity below 60 . The air from outside in winter will be close to 80 to 90 %

As above, over 70% humidity and rust will form, today in London its 94%. A decent dehumidifier in the Carcoon will work fine, £150 ish
