Winter tyre reccomendations

Hello all, looking for an updated recommendation for winter tyres for my Macan! Keen to get them swapped over now we have snow and hills out in the Cotswolds!
James

We use Nokian (21") on our VW Touareg ... excellent

Not sure if they are available / you require N rated tyres

Recommend buying a second set of wheels (I have 20's with winters; 21's with summer tyres)

Not good for the tyres to be mounted/dismounted regularly. I'm running Michelin Latitude Alpins - and they are very good

Michelin, Pirelli and Dunlop make N rated tyres, possibly others

Macanforums.co.uk has a few sets of secondhand wheels and tyres for sale

In winter conditions , the narrower the tyre the better performance so 18 and 19 Macan winter tyre sets preferable to 20,s if actual winter road performance more important than looks.

There's no single manufacturer producing a tyre to significantly out-perform others in wintery conditions.
Purchasing a wheel and tyre set makes more sense to me than swapping boots around for just 3 months. ????
A used 18" set can be purchased quite cheaply - just ensure the tyres are in date and carry a decent amount of tread.
If your budget allows, buy a set of the same diameter as your current wheels, as you then have a back up should you get a puncture or damage one in future.

Regards,

Clive

Although the summer tyres on my Diesel Macan are 20”, for winter I run a different wheel/tyre set of Dunlop Winter Sport 4D 235/55 19 Front; 255/50 19 Rear. These proved effective in the Alps last winter. I chose the 19” wheels for winter mainly because of the narrower tyre and increased aspect ratio. If driving in Europe make sure the tyres have the symbol with 3 mountain peaks.

I would agree that a second set of wheels / tyres is useful, however ... on the advice of the two tyre companies that we use, plus that of a `certain` tyre manufacturer ... as long as the tyres and rims are undamaged there is no reason not to swap Summers and Winters on the same rim

I'm down South so I don't need Winter or narrow tyres, yeah I know all the stuff about safer driving blah blah, but the Macan which is an '18 turbo with a performance engine is only my wife's hack and her commute is a main road deal with minimal accelerations and braking. It's got a set of 21" Pirelli Zeros which have lasted 18K miles, I really don't know if this is average or not, however, I thought I would give the PCGB/Pirelli offer of a few pounds back via a prepaid credit card a go. The nearest tyre dealer that Pirelli list was Elite tyres, they have places at Horsham and Haywards Heath. For customer service I would give them a minus 5 out a hundred, what a shower, and they were the most expensive of all the places I tried. I ended up with F1 tyres who handsomely beat all prices and negated this 'wonderful Pirelli tyre deal' so this Friday the Macaroon is booked in for a pair of Porsche spec Zero's in 265.40 for the bows and 295.35's up the stern.
On a different tack I get the magazine 'Classic Porsche' as I have a couple of old uns. I wanted to buy a subscription for the forthcoming year and checked the PCGB deal with Kelsey publications. The advertised 'deal' works out a £5.00 per mag, however, there is a xmas deal from Kelsey which knocks the price down to £3.30 a mag - result and I believe this is available for the other Porsche mag they publish. Seasons greetings all!

We use 18 in wheels (21 in in the summer) with Goodyear Vector all-season tyres on a petrol Macan S, note the vectors are full alpine rated with the 3 mountain peaks symbol, not all all-season tyres have this. Been very pleased with them, driven to the alps twice and deals well with the variable low temp conditions and rain as well as snow.

None of the "modern" all season tyres with snowflake approval (e.g. Michelin Cross Climate / Goodyear Vector all season) have N type approval from Porsche so if running them on a car with valid Porsche warranty can cause issues. The lack of N type approval for that type of tyre is unfortunate as such all seasons are the type of tyre most suited to all round year use in most parts of the UK..
I am running Continental winters on 18 wheels from November to mid-March and 20 wheels with Michelin Latitude sport 3 for the rest of the year
