Hi Guys need to purchase some new tyres. What is presently available. The ones on the car are 245 45/16 on the rears and 225 50 /16 on the fronts. My Independant doesn't think they are the correct size but admits he's got the same issue with his own car. Not even sure about the wheel types these days. they are 7 spokes with some sculpturing near the rim to reflect the shape of the rim. I'm assuming they are 9" on the rear. Car is an 88 tubo S with a 'Silver Rose' Chassis number

They are enamelled D90's what do you use the car for? Track Days Toyo R888 road tyres Pirelli Cinturato Premium contacts, or all seasons if your going out in the slush.

Anodised originally, but they look like they've been skimmed and then then powder coated. Not unheard of for the forged wheels to fail when skimmed, due to the 'spokes' cracking.

Those are not D90's they are Fuchs lightweight CS wheels, standard fit on the 88 turbo s, 89 turbo and very few 90 turbo's (mine had them), they were optional by 90 and the heavier, cast D90 took over I assume when stock ran out and they stopped making them.

Those sizes are correct, 245x45x16 rear and 225x50x16 front. I run Toyo T1-R's on mine, which last time I looked were still available in both sizes, reasonably priced and quite grippy. Decent in the wet too, quite a soft tyre. I'm not sure anybody else makes a tyre in both those sizes. There is plenty choice for front rubber but not so much on the rears, 2 or 3 possibly. Toyo's, Conti's and possibly Falken's.

They were indeed anodised from the factory, yours have had a powder coat to match your paint colour by the looks of it. My anodised finish is also long gone, had them cleaned up and powder coated silver a couple of times. In fact, I needed a new front rim, which I eventually sourced for a mere 200 euros, delivered, from Germany, and it is being tidied up and powder coated as we speak. I will also be buying pair of new front tyres after the winter to coincide with fitting the new rim.

Also, as Blade says, these are thin rims, skimming is not a good idea and can cause failure.

Quite rare wheels now and they often sell for £1,500 + for a set of 4.

FYI those are not the actual wheels on the car, just the same type. Why would you think they have been skimmed when they've got powder coating on them? Whats that got to do with the tyres? What a grump you are. if you've got nothing useful to say better to say nothing. You never have anything constructive to say in answer to my posts.... so just ignore me

Thanks for the Pirelli suggestion. Just road use at my age. Is there any value in going down the PCGB offer and buying Pirelli?

Yes, now I'm on the laptop (not the phone) I can see the sculpting on the spokes, which is missing on the D90's. We've got Turbo Twists on the 944S2 Garage queen (which I'm not recommending) and we do have a set of very tidy D90's somewhere. The race car has Nanking AR-1's, but as you are a PCGB member I would go the Pirelli route if you can get the sizes. They did a good price on a set of P-Zero's for the 993.

Put your dummy back in, and you may just learn something. The scallops are less defined on those white wheels, which indicates material has been removed from the faces. While you've been away, I've supported the forum by continuing to post. You turn up again and think you're entitled to censor me. Get over yourself.

Maybe there would be" more left" if it was a more welcoming forum.

Thanks to those with the more constructive responses

As much as I love the frisk can we just chill out a bit here guys.

It is well known from "back in the day” that CS wheels can crack if skimmed and the ones in your pic Eddie do appear to have the centre caps sitting proud - that has always been a sign of them being skimmed so Blade’s info is correct and constructive no matter how it landed.

The rears on those wheels should be 245/45R16 and they’re daft money, I have a set that I had powder coated black and I’ve not used them for 10 years.

According to the Protyre site the tyres for my Registration should be 225/55Zx16 and245/50Zx16 but they dont have any stock. Are these impossible to find?

Unfortunately, I dont have the computer know how to generate a URL of the wheels on the car.
it seems to be a different process to add an image to an existing thread than starting with one.. The wheels on the car have very definite sculpting and the centre caps sit flush with one exception where it doesn't seem to sit absolutely flush at one side

245/50R16 isn’t correct - and I’m not even sure they make tyres in that size?

It’s definitely 245/45R16 and your choices are really limited to 2.

Either N5 spec Pirelli’s at £225 each: https://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s3988p165567/Pirelli_Tyres_Car_Pirelli_PZero_Rosso_Asimmetrico_Pirelli_P_Zero_Rosso_Asimmetrico_-_245_45_R16_%2894Y%29_%28N5%29_RP_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_D_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB

or Tokyo TR1s (that I don’t really rate) at £113.30:

Ultimately it was tyre choice that pushed me away from the standard wheels into 17” and 18” options.

The forged are nice 16" wheels, and Cup 2's are nice 17's. Though due to the silly prices and questionable history old wheels, I'd buy some of those new 18" Fuchs (lookalikes?) if changing wheels now.

Thanks for your suggestions I think I'll stick with what I've got as far as the wheels are concerned. I recently bought a set of cup 1's from E-bay for my 220 Turbo in relatively good nick. Turned out they were genuine porsche wheels with 944 part No's. Got new set of tyres only to discover the wheel centres were too small to fit over the hub carrier... so its a bit of a minefield. I think the wheels on the car have been restored well and as I say have a very defined sculpture. Managed to sell the Porsche wheels at a profit

Some 5mm shims may have solved the 17" wheel issue - it did on my 996 c4 wheels anyway! I didn't know you could get cup2s with the smaller bore.

I had a set of 16" Boxster wheels for winter use like that. A set of 5mm shims as Tony suggested, moved the wheels out just enough so they fitted over the hub carrier.

I got my new tyres fitted yesterday. Pirelli, P0 N5 Rosso. front and back. Got them from Chris Mullins Tyres in Gloucester. Out of about 8 enquires they were the only ones who came up with a price and definite availability other couldn't source front and rears... even Toyo's. I tried all the usual sources, and some locals and some Nationals. nobody came back to me with a definite proposal. My local Pirelli 'participating dealer' in the PCGB scheme failed to respond

That’s strange as Camskill show them in stock for immediate delivery - glad you got sorted in the end though.

I did go onto the Camskill sitebut.... when I asked any a couple of companies for a fitting price they declined saying they weren't able to warranty tyres supplied by A N Other.
Eddie

I can only echo the comments on the Toyos... they're beyond abysmal. A shame as grip is good but ruined by that soft sidewall.
