Who's left?

I've been a guest on here for 14 years, and probably lurked for a year or 2 before that. Back then  there were a lot more people posting, and some entertaining differences of opinion too. Now it seems there's only a handful of us left. I remember when it was all fields around here .

I'm similar, about 13 years. Definitely quieter but still useful for advice and sourcing parts. TIPEC is even quieter.

I think you can directly correlate it to the amount of '44s on the road. It's much less then 13/14 years ago and apart from a few that come and go it's mostly the "lifers" on here that have had their car for ages, pulled it apart and fixed it often, and have little or no intention of moving it on.

A 44 isn't the cheap way into Porsche ownership now, the Boxster and 996 has that mantle now, whereas the 44 is now well into classic and appreciating status. This will be having a big effect on traffic in here.

I'm still here...... Sold the 944 race car though but we've still got a S2 garage queen, racing a 986 these days

If you think you've got it all under control, you're not going fast enough.

I partly blame the old fogeys that keep banging on about the Titanic, that ship sailed and sank over 100 years ago. And the film was rubbish too...

You can add to the decline the fast rise of bookface, much easier to post pictures, no PCGB censorship

Draw me like one of your French 944s?

What happened to Ex Skyline, seemed like he was going to do big things with his turbo and then 968, but just disappeared. Same as the guy with the black turbo, who it seemed was spending a fortune at Augment in search of 400+ bhp. I'm not sure it's all about facebook groups though. More likely cars like the Golf R/Focus RS/ Cupra R, that are similar money to a good 944 turbo, but are just a map away from a fairly reliable 350-400 bhp. The writing was on the wall when Promax packed up, who is importing/selling tuning parts for 944 turbos now.

Terry (Terra) as well, think he had a silver turbo that was anything but standard. Maybe here was more on TIPEC but was a very frequent poster than just vanished.

And the Finnish guy, Ollie, who was building a 400BHP car for his sons first car. He seemed to be a mine of information. I'm sure Simon (944 man) had some not very good dealings with him that might have coincided with his vanishing act.

My PM in and outboxes are still pretty much filled with messages I swapped with Jon Mitchell a few years ago. He knows just about  everything regarding 944/68's. Some people seemed to forget he made a living from his garage, and expected mates rates all the time. I understand things went a bit off course for a while due to family/health issues, but he was a real asset on the forums.

Yeah, I've had a few dealings with John. Very knowledgeable. He helped my fix a problem with my aftermarket SciVision MAF a few years ago. Knew about the potentiometers inside the little control box that emulates the AFM signal for the ECU. It's impressive enough to know the 944 inside out never mind also knowing an aftermarket upgrade back to front as well.

Done an insurance valuation for me as well a few years back and didn't charge.

This is beginning to feel like a wake, mentioning people that aren't around anymore . What about that GPF guy with the silver turbo S, last thing I remember it was being rebuilt.

Indeed. Steak pie coming up! GPF was selling up then changed his mind, rebuild sounds familiar.

Terry is still around as he's in my friends list on FB. I've not seen him post anything 944 related for a very long time, only see pictures of his family growing up these days.

Must have sold his 944. We used to get every nut and bolt commentary, not that I have a problem with that!

I have been on the forum since day one. In fact I was on the Board of Directors when it was started.
I am here every day but only post when I have something to say, not often these days.
