997 Gen 1.5 Turbo

Howdy from across the pond,

Was on the lookout for a 997 manual Turbo for a while and thought I’d be travelling across to the UK mainland but then this popped up for sale up North a while ago.

It’s a gen 1.5 997 Turbo, meaning it has the 3.6 Mezger twin turbo from the gen 1 but comes with the gen 2 interior (PCM 3 and air con controls).

Preference was for the 3.6 Mezger as opposed to the 3.8 DFI engine found in the gen 2 simply due to its racing heritage and reputation. It’s effectively an over engineered engine for the road with a reputation for being extremely hard to break, albeit originally designed many moons ago and built for the 959 / 911 GT1. It’s reliable and tough, but by no means modern, however the VVT (variable vein turbos) found on the 997 help the old block to get going nice and early.

The plan was always to get the car over to 9E in London for some fine tuning and have some suspension / geo work done, something I previously did with a 996Turbo a few years ago, which is the reason I wanted a 997Turbo and more specifically another Mezger Turbo. The car is now back on home soil having had work carried out and apart from a few small additions (internal extinguisher mount) it’s just the way I want it.

So without trying to bore anybody to tears below is a few pics and a list of work done so far, cheers.

Should have started a thread here sooner, however there’s an Instagram account called
