Evo 991.1 road test vid

Hope the C4S worked out to be all you hoped it would be Carlton.. Still running it..? The quality of EVO vids seems quite special and Henry`s presentation skills work well for me. I had been hovering around the idea of returning to Porsche ownership for a couple of years, and if so "Which Porsche", air cooled being my main interest carried over from a decade or so of hands on involvement owning restoring and repairing my Porsches, one from each of the 60`s 70`s and 80`s era`s. It took a while to gain a degree of comfort with the idea of water cooled and the 997.2 was looking to be the main target until I watched Henry`s vid. I had ever discounted the idea of FWD Porsches relative to the extra mechanical complexity involved and I suspect my comfort zone was with 2WD, having spent so much time with them, I was well used to the weight in the tail and enjoyed occasionally making use of it exiting corners when conditions allowed.. (-: Henry`s vid sealed the deal on 4WD as a possibility when he slid the rear out on that wonderful wet road. My other attraction to 4WD was that this Porsche would require to act as occasional backup to the household barge and that I live up a long steep hill in a region where rain, frost and snow are not unknown... When a blue C4S appeared on the market I dived in and according to HPI paid over the odds, but the 911 market as we were emerging from Covid restrictions seemed to disagree... A friend who is on the lookout for a 991.1 C4S seems not to have a lot to choose from at this time..? A year on from acquisition I am more than happy if not proud to own such a wonderful curvaceous if somewhat complex machine, and in the same blue as the one Henry drove in the vid... What`s more to want..? (-:

Hi geedee, Yes still loving the 4S, the car just had it 6 year service and needed a new pair of front tires as the previous ones were quite badly cracked from age apparently, also extending the warranty again (so an expensive month!). I love the wide rear wheel arches and the rear illuminated light strip, the 4 wheel drive is a bonus.

We have recently moved up to Scotland so I think the 4 wheel will come in handy in the winter, planning to put on the winter tires later this month.

Recently came back from a 3 week long European drive tour driving to Stuttgart on the Autobahn, then down to andermatt (Switzerland) doing the various alpine passes, then off to Italy to drive the various passes in the Dolomites and managed to do some hiking in Switzerland and Italy mountains as well! Managed to over 3,000 miles on the trip. A few pics from my summer trip!

ssteel, seems you may have missed out, as according to the pics Carlton posted he seems to have tackled some pretty interesting roads and in wonderful scenery with a group of Porsches..? Carlton, many thanks for posting details re your enjoyment of your C4S and in quite some style too. Your pics were fantastic. If you do not mind my asking..What did you use capture the images and was there a degree of ppi involved..?

I participated with a group of fellow 991 PCGB members to take part in a Switzerland Alpine Tour in 2018, and in 2019 we did a Tour of the Dolomites. However COVID got in the way and we missed 2020 and 2021, so 2022 has been the 1st opportunity for a while to drive over to the continent. This year we did both! Also as I was already in the area, I had an extra week hiking! Alas this year's tour was not an official PCGB event.

The passes we did were: The Old Gottard Tremola, Klausens, Sustens, Grimsel, Furka, Klausenspass, Neufenans, Lukmanier, Oberalp, Fluela, Umbrail, Stelvio Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Jaufen and Timmeljoch passes! One thing that was much more noticeable this year than the previous years was the increase of cars, motorhomes, buses, motor bikes and the worst being push bikes! (I think this was due to COVID relaxations and everybody had the same idea, hoping next year there will be less traffic!).

Last year I drove up to the Isle of Skye via (A87) Fort William, for a few days, and on the return drove over to Inverness (A832) and Aviemore and then down on the Old Military Road (A93).

The camera I use is a Sony A7R4 full frame format body. I shoot in RAW format and process the images in Adobe Lightroom/ Photoshop.
