Evening Guys
I had ordered what looked like a good one of these off Ebay. Needless to say when it arrived it wasn't. All the usual soft black foamy stuff on the flaps in a poor condition leaving massive gaps for air to flow through when shut, plus the light prism (demist) was missing and trim broken. Anyway got a refund no problem.
So set about fixing my own trim piece. The vent flaps were seemingly stuck half way open (car laid up for a year probably the cause), despite the slider being in the closed position. A little bit of lubrication sorted this. Then I set about fixing the issue of when flaps fully closed, air still freely comes through due to deterioration of the flimsy black foamy stuff. So I got rid of that and suitably cut two old credit cards to take up the gaps where the foamy stuff used to be. A careful bit of fettling and getting them taped onto the flaps to cover the gaps has left me with a perfectly functional vent that almost no air escapes through. Taping them on requires a bit of fiddling around the pivot but the end result is probably a better solution than than the original design with the foamy stuff.
If yours is causing a similar issue, it becomes quite apparent when you remove it why you have a sealing issue. Once fixed you will have a much better upward flow of air for demisting during the winter months!
