Wipers front and rear not working

Hi

the wipers on my newly purchased 944 are not working, neither the Front or rear wipers work, I’ve been advised both need a new motor but is it more likely something electrical as both are out of action?

ive replaced the wiper relay but still no joy.

I'd be surprised if both front and back had failed, do a continunity check on the wiring. Check for corrosion in the fusebox. Pay particular attention to the wiring to the rear hatch. You could rule out the motors by running 12 volts directly to them, I would suggest disconnecting the wiper arms first.

As Pete says, very unlikely both motors packed in. I'd rule out the switch gear as well as they are separate. Remove the wipers and put 12 volts direct to the motors, back one be much easier to do.

Of course you could only go out when it's dry.......or my mate is selling a Hyundai with the wipers stuck on, use that one when it's raining!! :ROFLMAO:

The rear wiper can get problems when the motor output shaft ,which is quite long, gets corroded & then binds in the bearing bushes in the motor case,
They are quite easy to repair/correct as long as long as you are careful & replace the segmental spur gear mechanism as you found it-this is what provides the reversing function.
I carefully cleaned up the shaft with wet & dry paper plus a fine carborundom stone-works fine now.

??
I did think about that but I don’t think the MOT tester will pass it even if I promise to only go out in the dry! ??

the car has been parked outside for almost 15 years prior to me getting hold of it so I think both motors have completely seized!
The car is currently in the MOT workshop and after checking it seems that there’s power to both motors, I’ve already changed the relay so i think it’s now the motors that have got to be changed.

Sounds likely then, as said, the back one will be dead easy to change, I did this 13 years ago when I got my car as it was noisy and I got a quiet unit to swap over, still quiet to this day.

I'm not sure what's involved in changing the front motor. It hides behind the big plastic box with the blower motor in it. Anything associated with the front linkage is generally very awkward and the wiper spindle threads can crumble so go easy on them! Hopefully the motor can be changed without removing the linkage. I'm sure the blower motor box though will need taken off, and again, this can be a pig with seized bolts, especially the ones round the back that you can't see! About 10 or 12 10mm bolts hold the top cover on IIRC. Prepare for swearing.........:ROFLMAO:

Good luck

My car has lived outside since I bought it 23 years ago....front is still original on my 36 year old car. I think that I may have changed the rear at some point but can't remember.

And skinned knuckles - been there years ago with my old 944S, the RHD linkage was still available from Porsche for a reasonable price then, so I fitted a new one.

The cost of new motors is enough to make a saint swear, they are repairable

some one else just changed one if they can send it to me I will have a look and fix it if possible

I have one I repaired already as a spare for my 968

??
Thankfully for me it’s in the hands of my local garage so all the swearing and knuckle damage with be them ??

managed to get a used but working and tested front wiper motor for a little less than half that of the price from Porsche, hopefully it will arrive today ??

just Need to find a rear motor now

if you can’t find one send it to me and I will fix it
save the one the garage took off and I will repair it and it can go back to the 944 collective as a exchange spare

i will even pay the Hermes postage if that helps
