***Porsche in the Park 2022 – event update***
A report from an excellent day on Royal Deeside.
A remarkable turnout of 75 cars graced the lawn at Deeside Activity Park – possibly the largest independent gathering of Porsche cars north of the Central Belt. In addition to local Porsche owners we also welcomed visitors from the Borders, Livingstone. Bo’Ness, Falkirk, Elgin and Norway. (OK that’s pushing it a bit with Norway, but it's almost true

!).


The weather played its part giving us dry conditions throughout the day and the perfect setting for the hotly contested karting challenge. The people’s choice vote for Porsche of the day was very close with just one vote separating 1st and 2nd. The Porsche of the day was Phil’s beautiful viper green 1985 3.2 backdate to 1973 911S spec, followed by Matt’s stunning 996 GT2 and Matty’s fabulous 996 GT3RS – all beautiful examples. I finally managed to get my camera turned on in time for the Karting action in the afternoon. Approximately 30 participants took up the challenge and after the heats were completed the six fastest drivers enjoyed a cracking battle to determine the winner. In top spot on the podium was Ali Verstappen, fastest lap of the day went to Daryl Leclerc and the most hotly contested award of the day the Porsche in the Park wooden spoon or Captain Slow award went to Gemma – that takes some skill Gemma – anyone can drive fast! A special mention also for our grandson Keilan representing Loraine and me in the karting challenge, Keilan took on the testosterone fuelled Porsche maestros and made the final along with Ali, Daryl, Chris, Russell and John. Thanks to everyone who took part. Some photos from the karting attached to this post, if I missed you, my apologies, my brain was mince by 2 o’clock!


In addition to the brilliant photos folk have already posted we can also look forward to seeing the photos taken by Barry, our photographer for the day, Barry kindly gave up his time to spend the day with us.


You will be pleased to know the money we collected was more than enough to pay for the hire of the venue and there is a surplus. With several options floated for using the surplus the groundswell of opinion is in favour of donating all remaining proceeds to my suggested charity - The Friends of Anchor Unit in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This is a specialised day care unit for cancer and haematology patients, now in its 25th year. The amount is £522.00 and will be donated under the event name "Porsche in the Park".


Before closing this report, a special thanks to Loraine, Karen, Georgiana, Philip, Graham, Russell, Tristan, Jim and Russell - the Porsche in the Park team. Thanks guys, it wouldn't have happened without you.


And finally, following the success of the event on the day and feedback I’ve received since, I’m now starting to put together the plans for Porsche in the Park 2023 – watch this space!

Paul, good to read that you all enjoyed a very successful event and that the weather was kind on the day for a great turn out.
Congrats on raising money for a local charity too.
Many thanks for posting the super pics of the top three peoples choice Porsches, pity that there were not more pics posted on this forum of the event for those of us who may not be into other forms of media.
You will note that despite being an R1 member I have posted on the R2 section just to spread some appreciation for your efforts around a tad... (-:

thanks for posting a response. I do agree with you about the absence of photos from the event in this part of the forum. I could hazard a guess as to why that is, but that's just a personal opinion.
The lack of photos outside social media channels is indeed an issue if you have made a personal decision not to participate in the likes of facebook and instagram. I have recognised this and always put my photos on both social media (Facebook) and my old-skool website, so in this case you can access hundreds of photos from the event on my website www.barlow.org.uk just choose Porsche in the Park from the dropdown list below "Events 2022"

Paul, many thanks for providing an alternative route to view your images from Porsche in the Park in order that I and others not on Facebook might view them. I must also admit to spending some time wandering around your site enjoying many of the other Porsche images you have captured and others of numerous other classics too..
