944 Automatic - Opinions?

Hi
im looking to purchase a 944 and have been offered a 2.7 auto model at what seems a good price, history is excellent and overall condition is good, my only real negative is that it’s an automatic model, any owners or those that have driven the auto could share their views? I like autos generally and have had a few but not sure if the 944 is the right car for one but I may be wrong?

Hi

I guess the first question to ask yourself is what do you expect from the car. Handling, looks, comfort and build quality is guaranteed but if you are expecting performance I'm afraid you may be disappointed? The 944 N/A range aren't known for their speed, add the auto transmission into the mix and the performance is pretty pedestrian. A quick check on google shows a 0-60 time of 9.4 secs. That's pretty slow even for the 80's but even slower when compared to modern traffic
However, as stated in the beginning, it all depends on what you expect from the car, if you are happy to drive along country roads at classic MG speeds then you should be happy with your choice.
As I said, all 944's are great cars with looks to die for.

Good luck in your choice

Pete

Thanks both in the end i opted for a manual car, I think for what I’m having the car for the manual will suit me better

Congrats on your purchase, I think you made the right call from a driving perspective. Pictures please!
