Esso 99 petrol

Yes all very good but last one I had they invoiced me twice and to rub it in gave no discount. What is that all about?

I've taken up the WEZ fuel card available from the club and switched to ESSO. After a couple of full ups using their Synergy 99 fuel I noticed that the indicated mpg has improved by about 10% and the car seems to run more cleanly. A quick web check revealed that the fuel, at least where I live is ethanol free, despite being labelled E5

More information, here... https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels/petrol

Discounted price and better economy....

Have you not received the email from WEX regarding the invoicing error they have experienced? They had a duplicating invoicing error on their system. They have since refunded the duplication and issued an apology.

Did you not get the email apology 23/08/22 that there had been an invoicing issue and they would be sorting it out

I got the email and the follow up saying all sorted but fortunately I wasn't one of the people invoiced / charged incorrectly

Dear Customer,

We have been made aware that there was a fault in the data we used for our latest invoicing. This may have led to a miscalculation in your most recent invoice. We are currently looking into the issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If your invoice was incorrect, it will be corrected as soon as possible. In addition, future invoices will only be processed once the fault is resolved. Payments will be collected as normal and we will contact you separately about any over or under payments. In the meantime, you can continue to use your Esso Card™ and benefit from all the advantages.

We will contact you again once this situation has been resolved. Our apologies once again and thank you for your continued custom.

Kind regards,

Esso Card™ team WEX Europe services

can I ask what people are being charged for Esso 99 my local garage its £1.85.9 and £1 54.9 for 95 If the card does save you money ?

NO one should run their Porsche on 95 ron though. you won't get the car you paid for if you do !

I get £2.72 off a tank of esso 99ron, plus the extra miles you get over the e10 crap (not worked that out), plus the BHP advertised from Porsche you only get with 98ron+ plus a more healthy car which does not plink under load and picks up like a demon and should offer the bhp for longer. No down sides to running Esso or Shell, but with a wex card you save circa £3 a tank vs Shell 99.

I have never used 95ron fuel !! even plan Euro trips via Shell garages. Esso 99+ is the best fuel available today. All thoughI will use Shell 99 this week I have £3.83 off on my app :)

Esso I paid £1.67.9 for my Mini fill Up and same garage for Porsche fill up £1.82.9 before the 1p & 6p litre off for WEX Card

I filled up at a Tesco Express Esso garage today, using my Esso Fuel Card for the first time. I bought premium fuel, but no discount was given. Not sure if the Tesco Express makes a difference?

The discount is applied to the invoice you get directly from WEX, the ESSO service station has no idea and you get a slip showing the pump price.

Been a 40 year shell user in all my Porsche's .. however reading this thread, wondering do I change to esso / PCGB card etc

Cayenne Hybrid & Boxster 981 GTS ... Comments / advice / guidance much appreciated

In much of England ESSO 99 is ethanol free, according to ESSO's website. The pumps are labelled E5, this is the law even when the fuel is "E0"!!

I think the car runs better than with BP or Shell premium fuels, which do contain up to 5% Ethanol.... but there is no clear statement on this from either.

Given that in the Southampton south wilts, Dorset and south Hampshire regions almost all fuel comes from the ESSO blending and distribution site at Fawley it is difficult to know what is fact and what is wishful thinking.

Pity that Esso pricing is so uncompetitive in the area in which I live (Nottinghamshire).

Price today of Esso super unleaded £185.9, Shell Super unleaded about a mile away £178.9 (The shell station is always the most expensive in the area)so even with the Wex card discount still more expensive than the most expensive supplier!

Being a favoured V Power user, I tried the ESSO 99 in the GT4 and Civic Type R ... could not tell the difference. The ESSO site is an absolute PITA, having a narrow entrance off a dual carriageway c/w a f.....g great pothole - definitely not worth going back there for `both` reasons !

(As an aside ... I have run both my cars on Shell E10 95, performance being `noticeably` unaffected with only a slight reduction in economy)

I subscribe to the above!

I have 3 porsche engines in my life

1973 early 911 with a 3.2 chipped in it for the last 25 years always run on Shell 99, runs a dream, and about 150k miles, never been apart. Used to hill climb it hard for years.

Runs worse on E10 !

Full spec 3.2 in a purpose built hill climb car, now just over 300 BHP. None road car, thrashed to near death on track. Tuned using Shell 99, fabulous, but risky to run on E10....Uses carbs and simple ignition, no engine management.

987.2 Boxster, 2.9 road car, bog standard, lovely thing.

Used to use Shell 99, but 2 years ago started using E10, preferably Shell, but anything to hand really.

Cannot say there is any difference tbh except price and availability.

Starts the same runs the same, consumption the same @ 34 mpg, revs to the red line when I'm alone in the car.

I use Shell as the garage forecourts tend to be bigger and neater and just easy to visit, pot holes never experienced.

Such access is important to me as is opening the wide Boxster's door with my back!

I have tried a tank full of Esso 99 E5 in the old 911 and it was great, just like Shell 99.

Esso have to rate their E5 ethanol free as there could be a trace or some there somewhere in the country.

I don't do track days where 99 is essential I feel, and never screw my road cars to death on the roads either, just too dangerous nowadays where I live.

If you can get it and happy to pay for it use 99 from Shell, Esso etc, but in a modern 'self adjusting' Porsche that isn't run hard?

E10 will do.

I can tell even with the posh BP stuff 97ron let alone 95ron that power and pick up is worse.

my cars run way slower on cheap fuel, and the pickup with Esso 99 in my Golf CSS is rapid. I guess if you don't notice then don't bother, but I think my car is broken if I have to run 95 for some reason, but that's only been 6 or 7 times in 10 years !! I still use SHell 99+ if no Esso about, cannot tell the differance but hope my engine is better off longer term with Esso. Bit like the long gearing issue people don't seem to care as they change at 4k revs any way so 100bhp down run what ever fuel you like you are missing 100bhp already what's another 15 !

Yes, I can agree with that as I don't drive the Boxster hard at all, change gear at about 4k unless I need to get past someone pdq.

I usually follow the 'shift gear' arrow on the dash which gets you to 6th quickly, the engine is flexible enough to manage that on mat roads.

Under such 'placid' driving antics, I would not notice the difference afforded by the 99 octane v 95/ethanol.

Roads around me are very busy, speed cameras everywhere it feels, more relaxing just to comply with conditions and look forward to the journey.

Porsche themselves have approved E10 for use in all Boxsters, so I'm happy to follow that.

This thus safe to use, but nothing about performance loss etc, just engine and fuel systems are ok with E10.

for utter peace of mind, any 99 octane is required.
