Afternoon All,
I've had a warning message on the dash come up saying there is fault with the PADM system. It goes on to say that the car is OK to drive but that the system needs servicing.

I'd very much appreciate any information or advice about the likely cause, and options for repairing the fault.

Many thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Nigel.

If you have the Porsche warranty then it/they will be replaced by any OPC at no cost to you. Otherwise, unfortunately, you’re looking at a very expensive repair. £800-£1000, each side. It’s a common fault. I had both replaced , under warranty, on my 2014 981 GTS in my two years of ownership.

Thanks for your message, sounds like I'll need to get it booked in. I've got a non Porsche warranty, also as I only bought from a specialist sports car dealer two months ago and so guess that it will be covered by their warranty as well.

Hi. I had the same problem in July. Was a two hour job once they had the part in. The technician at the specialist told me it’s perfectly safe to drive. No warranty quibble. Mine was a 2015 991.1 gts also. A friend has the same car and had the same last year. So appears to be common. Good luck

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your message. My local specialist also told me it was a common fault on the GTS, they had just changed a pair of failed mounts on exactly the same model last week. My warranty is a non Porsche product , just hope that all goes through smoothly.
Regards,
Nigel.

Unfortunately Nigel it’s not a problem unique to the 911 range. Unsurprisingly there have been a lot of PADM failures reported on Caymans and Boxsters as well.

Hope your aftermarket warranty covers the cost.

Jeff

Hi again Nick,
Please could i ask you another quick question?
The exhaust tips on my car are a mixture of chrome and black, as though they have been overpainted by the previous owner, and some of the black paint has simply flaked off. Please could you tell me the type of finish that you have on your car, are the tips chrome, or black, as I'm not sure what the original factory finish was?

Thanks,
Nigel.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the reply, I didn't realise that other models were affected also. Its not what you might expect from a brand such as Porsche is it. Yes, I've got my fingers crossed about the warranty.

Regards,
Nigel.

Hi Nigel
My car (2015 991.1 GTS) has the black-chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes. These are dark grey and shiny. Undamaged after 40k miles. Perhaps your coating is coming off?

Best
Nick

Hi Nick,
Yes, I think you must be right, although my car also the same mileage, the coating on the tips seems to have failed. I've ordered a set of aftermarket replacements from Design 911 rather than pay the £1500 for a set of genuine ones.

Regards,
Nigel.

I just bought a 2013 991 w Sport chrono and the mounts. One was replaced a year ago, they go individually. £900. It’s a common fault at this age and covered by warranty. They have a magnetic spindle or something inside which gets stuck and can’t be released. The aftermarket hasn’t worked out how to fix them yet but people are working on it as it’s a £500 part. Shame to throw it away. I understand it’s fine to drive when it’s stopped working.

Hi Lucy,
Yes, sadly it seems to be an all too common problem. Its very surprising, as the same technology has been used in adaptive suspension systems for many years. I'm presuming that they are a sealed unit and so as inventive as the aftermarket is, I think they are unlikely to be able to come up with a cost effective solution. Yes, at £900 each, i don't think I'll throw it away, keep on the bookcase as a piece of modern art.
