Hi,
just bought a 997.1 4s (2008 82K miles). What are the recommended modifications/checks from the experience of forum members?
aim is to keep it reasonably standard and use all year in Scotland (Perthshire based). Mods to protect it (e.g. mesh to protect front radiators?) and similar ideas welcomed.
not a concours car but one to be used and enjoyed!
thanks in advance

indeed, great roads in all directions from where I live. v frequently take the A85 form Perth to Oban so must pass you in St Fillans most weekends

I just bought a 997.1 2S manual that has the factory fitted X51 pack last year. Yes, first you need to take the car to Stuart at SP Autobahn in Stirling. He is a top notch guy and will give you a health check. After a year and about 2.5k I am still rather enjoying the car. Most likely you will need front control arms (I forget the exact term); they are not expensive. I had Stuart pull plug and have a look for bore scoring. And finally with that many miles you NEED to change your engine mounts if they have not been changed. This is Important!!

I am up in Aberdeen; nice roads your way. BTW, I drive my car a few times a week to work; rain or shine.

I had a 997.1 4S and now have a 997.2 4S - they are fabulous cars and made to be driven and enjoyed!
Grilles to protect the radiators is a sensible and simple mod. I bought the Zunsport ones which clip into place in minutes, and can be easily removed if necessary. Porsche used to frown on these wrt their extended warranty but seem more relaxed about them now and don't insist on them being removed when working on the car. Some other owners prefer making and fitting their own grilles using mesh but to achieve a nice finish this usually involves bumper removal. Enjoy!

The engine mounts have a viscous fluid in them. This degrades with time. Unlike a "normal" car where the mount is connected to the frame; these basically suspend the engine. Thus the engine is held in place or suspended by the mount on either side and the transmission. A failure could be very serious! Stuart at SP in Stirling has seen a few failures this year. I just bought a pair of RSS mounts from JZM at a really good price. They seem easy enough to replace. I will do it myself.

thanks Chris
I know Stuart from work he did on my 3.2 Carrera.
browsed engine mounts and understand exactly what you're saying. I'll get a pair and have them fitted. yes, they seem easy enough to replace, so I'll take a crack at it myself
