This old chestnut again, I used to use Mobil 1 Motorsport but as that is no longer available what are people using nowadays? I thought I saw someone mention Valvoline but couldn't recall if it was the mineral or fully synthetic variety?

I was using Total Quartz Racing 10w-50 for years before my current rebuild. It's very good value for money at about £50 for 10L. Haven't actually thought what I'll put in this time after I do my mandatory 500 running in miles on mineral oil.

I suppose I could get dearer stuff this time now I shouldn't have a sump weep or a cam box gasket weep or any other little weeps in fact, so shouldn't be topping up as often!!

Thanks both - is that the mineral or fully synthetic VR1?

I've got Shell Helix HX7 10W40 in at the moment but that was just to flush the engine after it had been standing for so long, need to change it when I replace the rear main seal. I see Shell do a 10W60 fully synthetic oil....

I once tried a 10w-60 for a change but found it took a tad long to build pressure on cold mornings up in balmy Scotland! Reverted back to 10w-50 at next change. 10w-50 hit the sweet spot for me for all weathers and to maintain good hot pressure, typically 3.5 bar hot idle which is more than decent. I'd be inclined to stick with it after I'm up and running again.

I've used Millers 15w50 CFS for over 10 years, very happy with it. Not sure if Millers still sell it though, and I recall PSH saying he didn't like the newer Millers oils.
