Chassis Number vs Date of Reg

The chassis number of my 3.2 Carrera Coupe denotes a 1985 year of manufacture. ZZZ 91 FS10.

Can anyone explain how come it was first registered in Dec 1984 and is thus on a B prefix reg?

Secondly, are there any differences between a 915.67 and a 915.72 box?

cheers Dave

The chassis number designates the model year, not the date of manufacture.

pretty sure the .67 vs .72 is due to the difference in output flanges between model years which also relates to slight drive shaft differences. Internally I think the boxes are identical.

Thanks Gents.

Makes sense, Porsche ahead as always. Having the 85 model ready towards late 84 adds up to me now.

Appreciate the replies.

Cheers,

Dave

sorry to burst your bubble but far from unique to Porsche - many manufacturers introduce the new model year in +/- Sept of the previous calendar year.
