Major Service and Oil Leak

Hi All,
My 2009 Gen 2 Cabriolet developed a small oil leak at 23k miles which my OPC are repairing under extended warranty. I understand that this is a big job a the leak is in the upper sump. I was due a major service (4 years) next month so have asked for that to be done at same time (around £1500) to include spark plug change (nearly £500).
OPC are considering a reduction in the menu price of service to reflect the duplication of works being covered by warranty ie spark plug labour etc etc.
Any thoughts on what would be fair?

Hi Roger,

Since the oil will need to be drained to address the oil leak I would have thought that the cost of fresh oil - and maybe the oil filter - should be discounted. Realistically I can’t see how labour for the sparking plugs could be discounted unless a full engine strip is required for some reason … worth a try though! [;)]

If the engine has to come out then it will make changing the plugs and V-belt easier, saving time and labour, which could be reflected in the price you pay for the service.

Thanks Jeff,
I'm not technically knowledgable so not sure what the oil leak in the upper sump repair involves. They just said it was quite a big job and they needed the car for several days (they have had is for over a week). Instinctively I would have thought that the labour element of replacement of spark plugs would be duplication. Not sure what else. They tell me that replacement of oil and filters would not be covered for the oil leak repair under warranty anyway as these are consumables!!

I think a lot depends on what work is required to fix the "upper sump leak” Roger and whether or not the plugs have to be removed in the process, so you’re very much in the dealer’s hands I’m afraid. I’m surprised that the oil at least won’t be covered under the warranty because, as I said, it will have to be drained to attend to the sump leak and it makes no sense to pour it back into the engine after a repair. Typical Porsche Extended Warranty penny pinching … but not surprising!

Hope you manage to get some sort of discount.

Jeff
