Boxster 987 3.4S drooping into Limp Mode

My 2007 Boxster recently developed a fault whereby the car started mis-firing over approx 4500rpm and then dropped into limp mode.
The error code indicated a crank shaft sensor problem & this has now been replaced with a new Bosche sensor.
It didn't resolve the issue however & further investigations led to a new alternator being fitted.
I thought that had sorted it because the car drives perfectly but...over approx 6000rpm the problem returned.
The revs drop and the car judders as if its fuelled with kangaroo petrol.
If anyone has encountered this issue and/or can offer suggestions to rectify the problem I'd be very grateful.
Many thanks.

John,

Maybe there’s a coil pack or sparking plug issue, but it could be something to do with the VarioCam, a solenoid actuator valve issue perhaps? You’ll need some Porsche-specific diagnostics (PIWIS or equivalent) to read any error codes associated with a problem of this type.

I had the same problem on my 997 turbo S
diagnostic came back with crank sensor
but it turned out to be a intermittent fault with the cam solenoid
