997.2 Oil Weep - what is it?

Hi all,

Just been to look at a 997.2 and upon looking under there seems to be a weep or two coming from I guess the Oil pan and something else. What are both of these and is it an expensive fix?

Please see photos of both items in this photo.

With that amount of oil and dust the leak has been there a while and not all leaks start at the bottom of the engine. The reason should be in the paperwork, if not dont trust the paperwork. Anyway either way you need to get it inspected by a Porsche Specialist.

I’d agree with Gordon’s comments, plus you could clean-up the area and monitor the situation to see if you can identify the source(s) of the leak(s). Maybe the crankshaft seal is leaking and oil is being centrifuged by the pulley out to the components in your photo, so be sure to check and clean that area.

Thanks guys for that. Still unsure for certain what it was - seller acted like he didn't know it was there so could have been a number of things so left the car in the end. Garages said it was most likely the sump and oil pan gaskets but as you say it could be something else also!

Another one will come up im sure!
