Very hard core very track day orientated as you say.

Will drive petrol until no more then give up driving true petrol head

Yes, bizarre isn’t it Brian? All track-focused GT cars get mesh protection for the a/c condensers and coolant rads to fend-off bits of rubber whereas none of the the road cars have protection from much harder debris like stones and other road junk.

It really is a shame that such hype is built up around these cars when the chance of being able to buy one is essentially non existent under the current circumstances. It supports a bubbling market where speculators thrive and are willing to put money down, even without the promise of an accepted order.

It is undoubtedly a fabulous car, and the videos are good to watch, but I find myself responding to them in the same way I watch those for the mega power hypercars - so what, do I really care? On every level I can think of, it has become irrelevant. I think my enthusiasm is based simply on the prospect, however small, of actually being able to drive one and, when that is removed I lose interest as I will never get to enjoy the experience.

But it is not just Porsche this is happening to, so perhaps I am just getting old! I'll just save up for putting petrol in the one I have got :p

What chance has the normal guy got of owning limited edtions new.

Tried to buy 3 limited models new not a chance the last being the 25th Boxster edition

Others GT4 Spyders when they first come out no chance.

Yes you can buy them all with hardly any mileage used but with a premium of anywhere from 20/30k more outrageous, flipped as they say for nothing more than profit.

That extra overs takes the car beyond a lot of people myself included.

Even though we have owned 23 Porsches 6 from opcs the majority serviced at Porsche.

Insulating thing is salesman offers you standard models one has never even asked about.

Leaves a sour taste when been loyal to the brand.

What gets me why don't they just make more keeping everyone happy nice work if you can turn business away.

So won't be buying any new because simply won't get one

+1 to all that chaps. Like you John, the whole thing leaves me somewhat underwhelmed.

Looking at it more rationally, for what you’d be paying for the car you could (actually!) purchase something like a little-used McLaren with even more eye-watering performance.

I do think Catchpole's greater involvement from the different PDK gear knob was a bit of a stretch but...

I’m sure that’s a unanimous opinion amongst all the reviewers. Given the car’s rarity it’s probably the only time they’re going to get any drive-time in it as well!

Incidentally, does your 718 GT4 PDK gear selector now have the “correct” action: push to down-change; pull to change-up? $570 plus delivery and taxes for a fancy selector’s a bit steep! I wonder if/when the RS’s intake system will be available?

Having looked at many of the videos and multiple photos, even on the Porsche site, I have not been able to get a good view of the internal arrangements under the rear hatch. Just the external intakes and a quick passover shot or two. Almost as if Porsche don't want to draw attention to it. Even the videos like carfection seem to skip it in favour of highlighting its effect on the noise.

Is there a clear bulhead behind the driver?

Is the engine cover just that, really sitting on top of the engine and moving with it?

It is clearly an extensive re-engineering of the whole thing, but few actual details yet.

I wonder how long it will be to the first delivery in UK, assuming they get to making right hand drive versions at all in these changing times.

As far as I know all 718 models have the "correct" push for down change action. Certainly all the ones I have driven have been that way.

The part gear selector (including the boot judging from the PET illustration) part # is 982.713.120 and is £469.82 inc VAT before discount. I think it also needs a small trim piece.

As commented earlier, the lever works the “right” way round.

Thanks for that link Andrew. I had not seen it and it gives far greater technical coverage than others. So it seems this is all down to a redesign of the engine cover, incorporating the new intake system. The engine is still completely separated from the cabin in the same way as the non RS models. and no extra bulkhead required, for example as in the Lotus Exige.

Certainly looks impressive in this context and seems to work very well.

Good job everyone is raving about the sound, given the euros they must have spent on it. Thorough job.

Yes this was a fact that I did point out to my OPC when they tried to suggest that both my condensers failed due to stone damage on my 992 C2S.(after a battle with Porsche UK and the OPC they ended up replacing under warranty as both units were faulty). Unsurprisingly they were unable to explain why the road cars are completely unprotected, presumably due to cost and the income stream from replacement condensers?

ironically the technician working on the car recommended ‘off the record’ that I fit Zunsport grilles as he did on his Cayman !
