A spirited run from Stirling over to Loch Lomond where the guys from the East met up with the guys from the West, to then enjoy a run up to the Rest & Be Thankful and on to Inveraray to enjoy lunch...My plan was to be in position at the R&BT in the hope of catching a few pics of the folks passing through that area.... I timed it way to tight..Duh ! Ended up a couple of cars back at the Loch Lomond Shores roundabout held up by a whole crowd of Porsches who had left 5 mins ahead of advertised schedule, game over..!
No way was I about to catch up let alone overtake on that road given the number of patrols camera`s etc.etc.etc. Coincidentally a young neighbour and his friends in their "sporty" machinery, had followed that same route on a fine Sunday perhaps a month before, he relayed the tale of the whole group being pulled over by the police as the result of "complaints," data checks completed and fortunately no bookings they were allowed to proceed..!
I had a good idea that the folks would not get too far ahead given the road works and traffic lights along the way which would likely allow me to catch up, so just got into cruise mode and enjoyed the scenery on what was a blue sky day. Having dropped down from the R&BT and negotiated the long left hander that is followed by a very long and open straight that goes on for a few miles, sitting at circa 60MPH...I spotted blue flashing lights well back in my mirror and they flashed on past travelling at quite a speed, I hoped no one in the group ahead had been driving in an over spirited nature..! Truth be told I suspect it might just be possible that the traffic guys just blast up and down that road with blues & two`s on any weekend when the weather is bright and clear to discourage bikers and others who having awoken to a wonderful weather day.. head for the hills for a blast...Of course I could be entirely wrong..?
As if on queue, I caught the tail end Porsche just as we entered Inveraray and parked op, the car park indeed any car park is ever lacking in the opportunity to grab a half decent pic or two more so given my lack of skill, but I gave it a go and will try to post a pic or two, should there be any interest.
Yeah there was a lot of salt on the roads, and the upper reaches of Loch Fyne had a few acres of ice coverage in places, I spotted one poor Ford (?) nose down off the road with very little other than a couple of police cones sitting on it`s tailgate to be seen at road level, a crane will be needed to get that one out. All that typed you folk who have your Porsches still under wraps and hiding till the warmer weather, missed another GREAT driving day, though I spent an hour or more hosing the rads, underside and washing the car down when I got home, but it was WELL worth it for a fine/Fyne day out...
