I have just opened a Group for the PCGB Macan register. Its a private group we’ll be able to post up events and news. And your be able to post photos, news and ask yourselves.
find it " porscheclub GB Macan register"

https://www.facebook.com/groups/509948340448946/

its early days and will improve as more people join and start using it. i have started a few threads and photo albums which your welcome to add to And comment on.

I do hope those of us who have no wish to register on Facebook won't become disadvantaged by this development. Register matters should always appear on this Forum, which after all, is our official PCGB communication facility. ???
Regards,

Clive

Completely agree, I have never been on Facebook, insta or all the others, and will not be starting now.

Following my appeal in the February Porsche Post a big thank you to Helen for stepping up to the plate and setting up the Macan Facebook page.
I thought is was about time the Register embraced social media so it's good to get an expert on board.
Over to you now Helen!
Regards Mike

I agree that communicating should be by using the forum or official club platforms, but until PCGB get their act together with a usable App, perhaps FB is a quick and easy way to view specific register and regional news on your phone or tablet providing that it requires registration and acceptance by the admin to join the group.

I totally agree Clive. Facebook group will just be there to compliment and work with this forum. Its an awful lot easier to use than this forum especially for posting photos. And nearly all other registers and regions are now using facebook to Help keep in contact with their members.

Completely agree as well. Emails are much easier if you're not a Facebook user.

i can’t post any events or information on facebook until i know about it. And the only way i get to know about it via the register emails .. so facebook will always be one step behind the emails.

For the record, I'm not on Facebook either and have no burning desire to be so, therefore rest assured register info and notifications will continue as usual by email. forum posts and newsletters.
However, in an attempt to capture interest from younger Macan owners just like other registers, I thought we should try and embrace additional forms of communication.
Regards,
Mike

Fully appreciate your reasoning Mike. I'm not against Facebook, just don't want to use it myself. Some Registers adopting it have suffered a noticeable decline in forum responses. So that's something to be wary of. There are definite advantages in using the forum over Facebook as you are aware. I think we should be encouraging more of its use rather than setting up an alternative - just my personal opinion.

I'm sure we're all very grateful to Helen for stepping up the plate. It's great to have another willing hand on board, particularly someone with Helen's experience and commitment. It's a great Register and under you leadership, we continue to be one of the best run, most friendly and active in the Club - we are very grateful to be part of it. ??

As another string to the bow it is all well and good, but if it develops to exclude many of us, it won't be such a great asset.

Regards,

Clive

If there are so many registers moving to Facebook, perhaps it is time to put pressure on Porsche club to look into changing the forum software. There are loads out there, perhaps a wish-list of features could be drawn up, the appropriate research done, and a transition to a newer platform achieved... I did find posting photos a pain, and the lack of an app is a shame, but as an App developer, and IT security consultant, I am not willing to use the data mining companies, sorry, I mean social network companies.

clive i honestly couldn’t agree more with you. Thats one reason i stepped up to manage the facebook group. So i can point people to the correct place to ask questions and find out info especially anything technical …… the correct place IS this forum. And make sure the facebook group does NOT take over from this forum.
the one (and only) thing facebook has over this forum is the ease in which people can post photos of their cars, and any events they have enjoyed.

It's just another tool in the modern world to enhance a Register and not to detract from PP Forum or Mailchimp a lot of people in PCGB expect such tools.
I think Mike as a Secretary has realised this, one just has to move with the times like it or not.
Helen is an experienced long time member so will keep things in line and thank you to her for stepping up to the job sometimes a thankless task.

For the record.
I will add events to the facebook page but with very little detail. just a teaser Advert to show what the register gets up to. members will have to find out more and book in the usual way.

All signed up!

Clive, I did send a few photos of my Macan adventures back in November to the address given above… I just thought they hadn’t made the cut ??
