718 side grill retro fit letter

Morning

i have just had a letter come through from Porsche GB asking me to bring my car into an OPC to have new side intake grills fitted. The letter references a risk from discarded cigarettes being drawn into the side intakes.

I am aware that some older 718‘s have had this retro fit applied but as mine is a 2021 model year (4.0 GTS delivered in November 2020) I would have thought that the revised parts were already fitted. Or has a further update been developed?

I will of course call my dealer but don’t want to waste my time if it’s not needed

Anyone else received the same?

Yeah similar. I got a prompt on the My Porsche portal at the weekend saying there was a safety recall. Called my local OPC and they advised the same. They said on newer models they’re replacing it (I’m assuming with a different part). They did ask if I’d received a letter. Anyway, now booked in.

Chaps,

I seem to recall that this rather strange issue originated in the US … I’m sure that fear of potential litigation played its part! 😀

Deja Vu all over again. We had this (cigarette butts) with an earlier model, Jeff was it a Cayman?

And this with track rubber pick up (AKA Other Peoples Rubber)..

including this..

Interesting. MyPorsche is saying there's a safety recall for my 2020 718 GT4, but using the recall system search there's nothing and I haven't received a letter. I was assuming it's a technical glitch but I'll see if I get a letter...

Would it be too much to hope that this will eventually extend to some grills that protect the front condenser :ROFLMAO:

And my letter has just arrived.

I don't think the GT4 has any grilles in the intakes from memory, so this will add them. It says in the letter that for those with grilles already fitted, the replacements have a smaller mesh.

I took delivery of my GTS 4.0 at the end of November 2020 but this is the first I knew about the potential problem. Maybe I'll be asked eventually...

I've just rung my OPC and I've been told it's an error - no action required???

Odd, very odd, if Dan's booked in for the work!

They took my reg and checked if it needs doing. Maybe it's not applicable to GT4s, just the lower classes :ROFLMAO:

:ROFLMAO:

From what the Service Advisor said to me, it didn't seem to apply to the 4.0 cars. Strange.

I'm going to email my friendly Service Manager...

So Dan's car may be booked in in error.

I've emailed my Service Manager, I'll let you know what he says...

Ah - sorry Dan! Got confused!

Seems like the "4.0 not applicable" info could be right then...
