FRONT L.E.D. AFTERMARKET LIGHTS

Does anyone have any knowledge re. aftermarket L.E.D. lights when I turn on the lights I get a message on the dash saying " check front right indicator " I have removed it several times and the lights and indicators work fine I know that Porsche don't like aftermarket bits but it is a bit annoying, so was wondering if there is a cure out there somewhere.

What car, what year? In my 968 days (years) I changed a lot of the smaller bulbs (side, tail, brake etc) to LED, but to change the indicator bulbs I would also have had to change the indicator relay to a LED compatible one - so did not bother. Maybe you have the same thing!

There may be a "language" thing here - in the past I have found that when Porsche sometimes say "indicator" when they mean "side light" (position indicator). If the error comes up when you turn the lights on then I suspect its not an indicator as we know it but more likely a sidelight - further confused by the Daytime running lights fitted to some cars.

Which of your lights are ( aftermarket ) LED ?

The thing that often trips up modern car electronics ( not just Porsche ) is the control units that look after the various lighting systems - they detect a blown bulb but the amount of current it draws, not by "has it lit up" - so LED's can confuse them by drawing less current than a regular bulb while still working - sometimes they are find until the temperature drops, sometimes the LED themselves start to flicker - other times it just moans and triggers a message on the dash.

The usual fix is ballast resistors - look on ebay or amazon for "canbus led resistor" - there will be loads - but I would advise confirming what is actually the trigger before just sticking them in line, perhaps a swap back to standard to make sure the error goes away and that the car and you are talking about the same lamp. Once yo uknow which it is that is complaining - try cleaning the contacts on both the holder and the lamp as a 1st attempt.

hope this helps

Find out what has been messed about with and put it back to standard. Changing stuff from manufacturers spec seems to cause all sort of grief.

Thanks for that reply, I have a local auto electrician and I will show him your suggestion and hopefully get it fixed.
