My 2022 Cayman GTS

Well after 16 months of joy in my base Cayman I've finally got approval to buy my unicorn, a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.

After a day with my OPC's demo which I let OC Home Command drive for the majority of it (bit of mind games going on), we put a deposit on a GTS with an initial request put in for an allocation in March with delivery in June however, I got a call today to say a February build slot has come up and would I like it. I would be silly not to so the car will/should be with me end of March.

Spec is as follows:

718 Cayman GTS 4.0
PDK (I wanted manual but she said no, she wanted cruise and I got my own back and said no)
Aventurine Green
Alloys in silver
PDSL with headlight washers in black
Race tex interior with extended items in leather
Speed limit display
Dual zone climate
Auto dimming mirrors
Auto wipers
Power steering plus
Light design package
Folding mirrors
Park assist F&R & heated seats but these are now standard items.
Heated multifunction steering wheel in racetex
Smoking package
Seatbelts in silver grey
Storage lid in racetex with Porsche crest.

I've opted for the standard 20mm drop so many thanks to everyone for your advice and I'm just hoping I win the tyre lottery and get the Michelin PS4S like I have now.

Now needless to say this is the most expensive car I've ever owned but this WILL be my last Porsche and one I will keep unless something drastic happens. It also helps that my car with 10k miles on the clock has almost £10k of equity in it.

I've even bought a new reg plate for when it arrives

Go for it Dan! At least you’ve now had sufficient experience with your current Cayman to know exactly how to spec the GTS. Good call on getting a number plate before getting a car! []

Unfortunately I’m with THE BOSS when it comes to cruise control … it’s one item I would always choose. For me the term “cruise control” is a stupid description because I use it as a general speed control all the time, and especially in built-up areas where there are so many “safety cameras” these days and where speed-creep happens too easily. For me it’s the modern equivalent of a hand throttle.

Looks excellent. I agree that cruise is worth it for the average speed camera zones alone. And don’t stress too much about the tyres, the N1 version of the P-Zero (PZ4) is not a bad tyre, in a different league to the older N0 P-Zero.

you have done very well to get a February build slot. May I ask please which OPC in case that March slot is still available? (PM me if you don’t want to put it on the forum)

If it's going to be your forever car I'd seriously consider adding Cruise Control and the Rear Parking Camera. Both of those are seriously useful and very highly recommended []

Thanks Dave. I can’t justify the added cost for the camera as I’m at my limit now and at least I can have cruise retro fitted and she‘d have to pay for it but for me I’d never use it. We’ve had it on several car and I never even turned it on.

Re. the cruise, it's cheaper to have it put on the car at the factory than it is to have it added by your OPC - if that matters []

ive heard from several reliable sources that’s the one thing you must have,but I guess if it’s your forever car then resale doesn’t matter.

its the only way apart from badges that you know it’s a GTS( don’t shoot the messenger!)

love the colour and I prefer your wheels to my platinum satin GTS ones the OPC ordered……

This is going to sound a bit nerdy but there are two exterior ways you can differentiate them.

At the rear the exhausts of the 4.0 litre cars have their pipes further apart so they're not centred like the flat-4 cars.

From the front the SportDesign bumper on the GTS has matt black inserts whereas the optional SportDesign bumpers of the flat-4 cars are either body coloured or gloss black.

No I didn’t opt for the GTS interior package. It’s £3k and tbh for some contrast stitching and carbon, no thanks. I opted for the extended leather though at £1200. It still comes with alcantara and GTS embroidered on the headrests. Please don’t tell me your salesman told you that it’s the only way you can tell a GTS

As a side note, the GTS/ GT4 also has a single slat on the side air intake where the other models have 2.

I really don’t think that there is ever going to be a problem with resale on a GTS4.0, interior package or not. only get it if you really like it otherwise its a heap of money for some fairly tatty carbon fibre bits.

Nope the salesman didn’t try that line on me- it was a friend on his 7th GTS with experience of 6 resales

im not inclined to listen too much to salesmen at my age

A very nice chap on Rennlist has done a cutaway rendering of a CGTS 4.0 in Aventurine Green for me. He does quite a few colours and models so GT4, Spyder, CGTS, BGTS etc and if you send him your build code he will put on as many of your options as possible. He also does 2 renderings of the 4.0 engine. If you want them in high res, he charges $50 for all 3 so you can make them poster size. Not too sure if he does the 2.0 or 2.5 but I'll ask the Q.

Just an update on the cutaways, he can do the 2.0 and the 2.5 and as an addition you get 3 engine drawings and the PDK cutaway for your $50 all in hi res.
