Getting a build slot

Has anyone recent experience of securing a build slot? I've have a deposit on a 718 GTS 4.0 at my local OPC, but they cannot give many any other than the vaguest indication of when I might get a build slot (up to 2 years). I'd be interested to know how long people are waiting from having their deposit accepted to receiving their invitation to lock in their spec against a build slot.

I have lost all faith in my OPC. I have had a deposit on a GTS for 7 months. All I get every month is waiting for a allocation.
with no clue as to when I will get a car.

I was told my allocation would be at least a year.
luckily a brand new unregistered in almost exactly the spec I wanted- shark blue ,GTS package LED etc etc etc!had arrived that day in the showroom for stock
so I nabbed it and collect for Xmas ( or may wait till March 1)
so may be worth phoning around to see if anyone else got one in

I’m impressed that the OPC contacts you every month. If I want to try and get an update I have to contact the OPC. I wonder if the OPCs really have any info from Zuffenhausen other than when an allocation of build slots arrived. Interestingly, someone I know got a build slot just after the November price increase was announced . . .

We have just collected our Boxster 25 4.0 PDK, which was ordered in Feb. We originally had a GTS PDK ordered from last September but knew PDK wasn’t available until early this year. However due to the microchip shortage all manufacturers are struggling plus there were issues earlier this year with the 4.0 engine pushing build slots back. My understanding is dealers have no real idea when a car will arrive until they get allocated build slots, which in our case got pushed back around 5 weeks, but my understanding is the GTS 4.0 are in big demand and can be a year before receipt.

I was in touch fairly regular with my OPC and most of the time they could not tell me anything. They get a build slot roughly 6 weeks before build I think where you have to finalise spec. The annoying thing is because our car was classed as a 2022 model when built the price increased £1100 from when we ordered it

If you’re still waiting on an allocation, I would seriously give thought to ringing every dealer in the country and see if they have anything available and if they do, put a deposit on it straight away.

When first enquiring, I was told I’d be looking at a December ‘22 allocation for a March ‘23 delivery as they were getting 2 allocations a month then after a test drive, my OPC told me they’d been given quite a few allocations for Q1 ‘22 which fulfilled their Q1 and Q2 customer orders so I would be no2 in line for a Q2 allocation if one came up. So I put a deposit down 2 weeks ago and they put in a customer demand for an allocation. I got a call yesterday saying a Feb build had become available and would I like it so I took up the offer and delivery should be March. I think one of the bonuses for me is that I have quite a good relationship with my OPC and this will be my second car from them.

OPCs get allocations every quarter and I would imagine it depends on how big they are or what their customer demands are.

Good luck with your search and keep us posted.

Put in an order and deposit paid in late July for a GTS 4.0, still waiting on an allocation.

Does anyone know the approximate build time once an allocation is given?

I have a January 2022 build slot with delivery scheduled for the last week in February. I ordered the car in July and like others , the OPC had no idea when they would get the allocation. My expectation was that I may get an allocation in May/June 2022 and so it was a nice surprise for it to be early. I spoke to the OPC quite a lot about the whole allocation thing and it seems that some are better aware than others as to what they will get and when they will get it.

I ordered a Boxster GTS 4.0 in mid-Oct and said I'd be happy for delivery from Aug/Sept 2022 onwards. I was told that might be possible, but it could well be sometime in Q1 2023, but really anytime in that range is fine by me. Anecdotally, I hear that Cayman GTS orders tend to be fulfilled a little quicker. Bournemouth OPC offered me monthly updates in the meantime, but I said not to bother until there was some tangible news on a build slot. As well as the mildly annoying possibility of a second price rise before the order is locked in (as happened a few weeks ago), I wouldn't be massively surprised if the 718 range was updated in the meantime too. If so, I particularly hope that there won't be any major changes to the interior layout - I hate the general trend in cars towards use of large touchscreens and loss of physical buttons, and I really dislike the cabin in the current 992. If the 718 was to adopt something similar, I would probably then look for a used car instead, by which time I'd hope there would be a few more on the market to choose from.

I placed an order for my GT4 PDK in April last year and heard nothing and if honest didn't expect to as it was my first step into Porsche ownership.
Received a phone call in May to firm build and spec and picked up in July which I was very surprised about.
Although I fully appreciate I was extremely lucky the whole place your money and wait and see what the lottery pulls out does seem very frustrating especially for the purist of motorists that the majority of us here are.

I ordered a BGTS Sep 2020, then switched to Boxster 25 in Jan 2021. My BGTS allocation came through in May 2021 for July build, which I turned down as I really wanted the 25yr. That came through early Sep lock, October build, delivery November. So 10 months and 11 respectively. And 14 months total because I changed order.

I came to it with the wrong expectation (it was my first Porsche), thinking factory order=12 weeks like BMW, Merc etc. Learnt the hard way! Sometimes I just thought it wasn't going to happen. But it does and it repays your patience when you finally take delivery.

Hi Dan

Congratulations on getting your car so quickly and what was obviously a very smooth process. I fear my experience is more frustrating!

I placed an order for a GTS 4.0 Boxster and paid a deposit at the beginning of May 2021 and I'm still waiting to hear when I will receive a build slot. My OPC claims they received no allocations for GTS models in the second half of 21 and have received no cars nor had any allocated so far this year. So I'm a little surprised by your experience and the statement by your OPC that they are receiving 2 cars a quarter. Can you tell me which OPC you deal with as it would appear the Porsche GB may not be distributing cars across the network in an even pattern.

Hi Chris

as my original post was back in November, the world has changed significantly and looking at it now If you wanted to place an order for a Boxster GTS you’d be lucky to get a build slot this year unless you get a cancellation.

I’d keep trying and hopefully an OPC will have a slot eventually.

It’s not only the UK that have this issue, the US market is really struggling especially since they lost a vessel full of VAG vehicles which now lays at the bottom of the Atlantic and a couple of hundred were damaged during a rough Atlantic crossing I feel Porsche are struggling to play catch up.

Dan

Thanks for your comments and I appreciate things have changed. What frustrates me is that I placed my order in May 21 six months before you and I’m still waiting.

It does seem that the distribution across the country has been variable as my OPC has received fewer cars than you dealer. It’s the third car I’ve bought from this OPC so would like to think that I would have received some priority.

Hi

I had a deposit down on a boxter 4.0 from August 2021 and then had a build slot come through in late April / May 2022 if that helps at all

I ordered a Boxster GTS 4.0 in Oct 2021 and I get a monthly update from Bournemouth OPC, which is nice but not really necessary. No allocations yet, but the latest best guess is a built slot around Easter 2023, which is fine. I expected a long delay (always been the case with Porsche in my experience anyway) and so ordered well in advance of when I wanted the car
