Detailling & ceramic wax - the results are in!

If you've seen my intro post you will know that I bought my first Porsche a couple of weeks ago. If you were at the Health Check evening at Porsche Glasgow you will have seen the car, where it was happily given a clean bill of health - a testament to the excellent service history and good owners. In my head I had budgeted some money to rectify the inevitable faults that you would expect on a 14 year old car, but as there weren't any I decided to spend the money on the paintwork instead.

I should point out that washing & polishing cars is not my thing, while I respect and appreciate the results people get I have neither the skills nor the patience, and I'd rather be driving it. After a bit of research I settled on CF Ceramics (aka Scotwheels) in Dunshalt, Fife. Even as I was dropping the car off the voices in my head were saying "The car is fine, you're wasting your money, £600 buys a lot of unleaded". The voices were wrong.

Step one was decontamination, where they spray some chemical on it which takes all the crap. According to Eric:

"The iron fallout it's mainly brake dust and other environmental pollutants. The iron particles land on the paint, instantly rust, swell and bond into the pores of the paint. These need to be removed prior to machine polishing. The fallout remover goes on clear and bleeds red when it hits these contaminants." That's a lot of red!
 
The whole process took three days, plus a further day for the coating to 'cure'. I'm not allowed to wash it for a week, and I've to take it back and be taught how to wash it "properly" (which is included in the price). Inevitably it rained when I collected the car (which is why the shots are all inside) and hasn't stopped raining since, however watching the rain droplets run off the paintwork is mesmerising. Allegedly the treatment will protect the car and make washing much easier (no excuse now). Time will tell about that, but the car certainly looks amazing.

If you are on Facebook, and haven’t already joined the Region 1 page you should, you will reach a greater audience. Also much easier to post pictures.

It certainly does, my three white Cayman`s have all been coated ... tar and bug splatter are so easy to remove and don`t stain

Another driver over detailer here but am interested in how your tutorial goes [;)]

Your car looks fab.
I had my Macan done and protected just after I bought it. That’s 6 years now and it still cleans easily and twice a year I put a coat of Gtechniq C2 on it to help keep the paintwork slippery.

Thanks Alan, there's certainly more to the process than I previously realised. I have joined the R1 Facebook page, just waiting on it being approved by somebody I think as it says "pending".

Thanks, that's good to hear. I'll report back once I've passed the course :)
