Winter Tyres for a 992?

Hi Folks,

A long time follower, but first time poster.

My partner is desperate to take our 992 C4S to the Alps in early Jan 22 but that means a set of winter tyres + wheels. I can't really bring myself to spend £4000+ on a set for a week so was wondering if there's another member who is either looking to sell a set or would be interested in 'renting' me a set for that period? Happy to pay for whatever costs associated with it.

Not sure if this is the 'done' thing but thought I'd ask anyway!

Thanks (and thanks for all the indirect help in the search for my 992)!

I can't help with the winter wheel set but I'm just intrigued about the attractions of driving in the Alps in winter. Many passes shut. Those that are open covered in salt and similar corrosive crap. Best of luck if you do find some tyres/winter wheel set.

Do not know what you decided but there is a new set on eBay at what looks like Porsche Centre Solihull.

Thanks all,

I saw those on eBay but they're the 19/20" wheels which won't fit the S I understand.

In the end, decided to get an XC90 for 3 months and use that for our extended trip. Keeps the miles and the weather off the 911!

Hi, glad you sorted yourself out.

For what it's worth and in case it's of help to anyone, the more common Porsche winter wheels and tyres usually are normally a smaller size than the summers (this is the case on the S). Well, the wheels are smaller but then the tyres have a thicker sidewall which makes them more pliant and comfortable although not as visually attractive ... yet while keeping the rolling diameter of the whole ensemble the same.

If you go onto the Tequipment page for the 992 S and look up winter wheel/tyre sets
https://content3.eu.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment/TeqFinder.nsf/TeqFinder?ReadForm&ba=911&ma=PCGB%20(RL)&sp=1&bt=992&mo=911%20Carrera%20S&co=30&ac=category&ka=Winterkomplettrads%C3%A4tze
you'll see that there is a cheaper wheel set at size 19/20 (which tends to be what most people buy), and then there are far more expensive 20/21 with the lower height sidewall tyres. Both wheel/tyre sizes can work on the car and come packaged as sets.

I say this from personal experience - my 991.2 4S with 20' summer wheels had 19' winter wheels, and my Panamera 4S with 21' summer wheels had 20' winter wheels. Both supplied and installed by the local OPF (who also do a nice twice yearly swap and storage service for reasonable cost). I don't know if they require spacers (dealership has recently given me back my Panamera's winters and they did not provide any).

The uglier winter setup then makes you keen to switch back in Spring!

Cheers

If any members are looking for a winter wheel and tyre set for their 992. In Dec 21 I bought the 20/21” Carrera S Tequipment wheel/tyre set in silver with Michelin Pilot Alpin 6 for my 2019 992 Carrera S from my OPC (Glasgow). I’ve done about 700miles on them and they are in perfect as new condition.

I’ve traded my 992 in for a rather nice 718 Spyder and therefore the wheels are available for anyone who needs them.

I‘ve enclosed a picture of what they look like on the car and a link to the wheels/tyre package on the Porsche catalogue.

If you want them, or want to know more, give me a shout.

They come with centre crests, tyre pressure monitor sensors etc and are currently stored at the Tyre garage of the Glasgow OPC for me.

Hi Speedmaster,

Could be very interested by these dependant on price.

Sure! I want them to go to a member, I bought them new from the OPC 6 weeks ago with the club discount, so I’m happy to take whatever you think is fair. (Make an offer, I wont be offended :) )

I wonder if these were sold? Am looking for a set of winter tyres and wheels for 911 (992) C4S, due at end of July, ideally 20/21 inches..
or if anyone else knows of any - help much appreciated!!!
