Hi All,

I have still new to me Panamera 4S (971, reg 66) which is suffering really strange issue with PCM, which finds updates but it is always stuck on 0% download.
This is regardless if I try to download using SIM or WiFi from my mobile.
Car is covered with Porsche approved warranty and has been already 2 times at Porsche Guildford to fix it.
1st time they have updated the car software (it is now more reddish) and they told me in about a week after update (strange?) it should work. It didn't.
So car was 2nd time for a week with them and they indeed have managed to somehow hack the maps so they are now new, but downloads are still stuck at 0%.

I told them that the expected success result for me is that updates download correctly as oppose to hacking something now and leaving me with same problem for future.
So here we are.

Has anybody experienced similar problems with PCM updates?

Kind regards
Piotr

Hello Piotr,

I own a Panamera Turbo Executive (971, reg 17) and have exactly the same problem. My map updates are currently also stuck on 0%.

I first noticed the problem after the car had a routine update to its Navigation Software as notified by Porsche GB. After the PCM update I tried to do an over the air map update and it wouldn't download. I subscribe to the 6 monthly map update service and I am due an update as I am beyond the 6 month period since my last one.

I took the car to my local OPC (Porsche Centre Newcastle) who couldn't solve the issue so they escalated the problem to Porsche GB technical support. Porsche GB recommended that the OPC reload the map database (not the system) so they sent them a SD card with the 2020 / 2021 maps for upload. After the updated maps were successfully loaded, the PCM still showed that map updates were available and selecting them again got the update stuck at 0%.

So, I am no further forward (other than having a fresh set of maps uploaded via the OPC SD Card) and the over the air update feature (that I am paying for) still doesn't work.

The OPC / Porsche GB has now escalated the matter to Porsche AG Technical in Germany and I am expecting to hear something from them in the next 7 days or so. In the meantime I am still paying for a service I am not receiving!

I would be good to hear any updates from your side and I will post my outcome as as soon as hear something from Porsche Germany.

Kind regards,

RandallF

Hi RandallF,

Porsche Guildford told me to call some Porsche support helpline where I have explained again what the problem is and they referred it back to Porsche Connect team.
This ping pong now lasts for 2 months for me.
haven’t heard back from them for two weeks.
I will give them a call tomorrow, but definitely I am not going to let them get away from fixing it. There must be a fix.

Any update on your case?

Kind regards.
Piotr.

Hi Piotr

Nothing back yet from Germany.

I think it’s only fair I give them until Monday which will be by then 7 days from the date the ticket was raised.

So finally called Porsche service and they told me that the problem I known, that it affects some customers and they are working on it.
Let’s wait and see.

Cheers.

Yesterday I saw a message in the morning that update has been completed! And it really is.
Online update is now showing nothing to update, but also can download different map regions.
So problem is solved by Porsche at least for me.
Afaik it should be also sorted for caymans one possibly other models which were suffering same issues.

Are Porsche AG saying you can now update from your car as they have fixed the issue their end, or have your car's maps been updated by your Centre?

We will see Ralph as the 718 GT4 has the same map update issues that many are experiencing on other models. I even switched off the phone and connected the PCM to the house Wi-Fi, which has previously worked only for the update to hang as usual.

Joy of joys, I too can receive OTA map updates!

Its been 3 months since I reported the issue to Porsche who did a on-site update as a temporary fix to keep me happy as I was subscribed to a service I simply wasn't receiving.

Seems like the service is now fixed and all's good.
