strange battery charging issue

I don't use my macan as much in summer as in winter - so n recent months it's been on a ctek trickle charger - usually green light on at the end of charge cycle and all fine. last week it was off entirely when I looked at it. hmmm.....

put the key in and it said 'low battery, go on a long drive'... so I reset the charger - ignition on, set it, two lights, charging all well....
then checked day after off again (charger is on the cigarette lighter socket near the gear lever which is supposed to be always on)
kept this reset, connect, looks ok, find out it doesn't a few days... clearly that socket had decided to stop being always on

then took it for a good hours drive, all well
plugged the charger in again, charging ok, green light fully charged day after - back to normal.

so what I think happened was .... for whatever reason ctek stopped or disconnected... then battery depleted... then when it was low enough the normal cigarette lighter connection would not stay on and kept disconnecting it. Maybe it only works when the battery is at a certain charge level, below which it tries to shut everything down?
anyway, all good now and I think the anomaly was due to the charger socket turning itself off due to lower battery level which prevented the ctek bringing it back up unless it was above a particular level.
lesson learned - check it a bit more often.

Interesting post and thanks for sharing.
Whilst I've had no problem charging via the power socket in my 992 or my previous Macan SD, so far I've been unable to do so successfully with the my Macan.2 GTS. I've needed to use the crocodile clips and connect directly to the under-bonnet terminals.

Regards,

Clive

Interesting, I have a Macan Mk1 GTS and have not been able to use the power socket(s) for charging. Like Clive, I need to use the crocodile clips and connect directly to the engine. In my previous car, a 981 Cayman, I was able to plug directly into the power socket. I would be interested to hear from others about this issue.

I just don't understand why anybody buys a wonderful drivers car but doesn't then drive it sufficiently to keep the battery charged! What is the point? Wouldn't the money be better spent on a whacking great diamond? It'd say similar about your wallet but not need charging, depreciation could also be even lower than a Porsche!

Speeding ban, working away from home, illness, holidays, overseas trips - all sorts of reasons why...

Porsche suggest using a charger if the vehicle is to be left for 2 weeks or more. [;)]
