replacement battery (993 1996 C2 Tip)

Hi all, looking for advice ... I've owned this car for 2 years and the paperwork received when I bought it shows a new battery was fitted in July 2017 by Jaz Porsche St Albans (a 74 AH 680 CCA unit). I'm planning to let Kwik Fit supply & fit a new battery and of the 2 they offer I'm thinking a 75 AH 720AH unit. The Driver's Manual doesn't have any info to say what battery was fitted from new (I know and trust Jaz, so the unit the fitted in 2017 must be "right" - however I no longer live anywhere near St Albans thus thinking I'll go to Kwik Fit). And, as well as battery choice advice, do you have any top tips on re-starting once the new battery is fitted - the Driver's Manual says run at idle for 10 minutes to allow engine ECU to reset. Thanks all, Steve

Hi Steve.
Some batteries have a 5 year warranty might be worth asking the question if its still covered.
Obviously some have 3 years warranty so that would be out now.
Euro car parts do batteries at reasonable prices .
Good luck.

...Or get one and fit it yourself - easy...

Any quality 096 battery (very generally available) with a good CCA (cranking power) rating will be fine, just check the existing dimensions and location / type of positive and negative connections and you’re done.

turboww - will keep you posted after my visit to KF - the branch I'm going to saved the day when I had a slow puncture on an RS6 and was setting off on a 100 mile trip and for a few years Old Kent Road KF looked after my 1984 Saab 900 T16S (brakes, tyres, battery, MOTs) - faultless service every time and the one time they couldn't fit me in at short notice for an MOT they arranged an appointment for me at another nearby branch. In my experience it all depends on the branch manager.

CliffWilkins - I hadn't thought of that but I can't figure out if still under warranty (it's an Excide Excell EB740) and Jaz St Albans (who fitted it) are 200+ miles round trip, so won't interrupt Steve Winter and the team this time round.

pre_Sc - I educated myself on CCAs yesterday, and the one thing I have checked is that the KF unit is exactly the same size as the Excide Excell EB740 it's replacing so that rooky error has been avoided.

Thanks all, Steve
